From the Irish Examiner: By Fionnán Sheahan and Harry McGee
TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern yesterday accused Sinn Féin of cynically manipulating the peace process by deliberately ensuring the IRA cut down on punishment attacks at sensitive points in negotiations.
In a measured performance, that was hailed as one of his most accomplished, Mr Ahern turned the screw on the Republican movement, as he admitted he has previously restrained himself from showing anger at IRA criminal acts for the betterment of the peace process.
Aside from his forthcoming meeting with British prime minister Tony Blair on Tuesday, Mr Ahern said he also plans to meet with Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy and Police Service of Northern Ireland chief constable Hugh Orde next week to discuss the Northern Bank robbery.
In a personalised attack that showed his deep anger at the party, Mr Ahern held the Sinn Féin leadership directly responsible for all forms of Republican criminality.
