President returns to NH this morning
MANCHESTER – President Bush spoke today at an invitation-only luncheon at the Radisson Hotel Manchester, hosted by the New Hampshire Business and Industry Association.
During his speech, Bush told about 450 invited guests the national economy “is strong and it’s getting stronger.” As evidence, he cited statistics on growing incomes, increased productivity and job-creation.

He won applause when he repeated his declaration from last week’s State of the Union address that the country must combat its addiction to foreign oil.

(The Presidents mention of Performance Assessments are the Office of Management and Budget's system of stars and slashes that rates how effective are various federal programs. You can check it out here what he wants to cut: http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/expectmore/

such as this bad program:
Program Assessment: Results Not Demonstrated
National School LunchThe National School Lunch Program is a federally-assisted meal program operating in public and nonprofit private schools. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches and is intended to safeguard the health and well-being of the Nation's children and support domestic agricultural production.

2. OIC
so...those parents who work hard but don't make any money to speak of, and have a hard time providing for their families can then have a program taken away which does nothing but help their kids???

I'd LOVE to know where the income is increasing btw. I know mine hasn't

3. Conservatives claim these are failed programs.
Their "proof" is that when the programs were instituted, people signed up who were surviving without before. Therefore these programs "created" poor people.

That enrollees don't raise themselves from poverty is their evidence that the programs are "failed". So if the program is successful it would run out of applicants eventually.

I didn't make this up....It was explained to me as such by a Limbaugh republican.

4. This is truly a sad, sad move. Hungry children don't learn. School
breakfasts and lunches are one of the most effective programs out there; for some children, that may be all they eat in a day.

(yes, some schools don't choose to serve the healthiest foods, but something is better than nothing for these kids)
