Poll question: Do we know what we stand for?
We hear a lot of talk in the right wing media that Democrats don't know what they stand for.

Do you know what you stand for?

1. WE do. The PARTY doesn't
thanks to decades of DLC "leadership."

11. Exactly.
We are going to have to remake our party from the inside, or move on to a 3rd party. We know right from wrong; it seems almost all of our so-called leaders have forgotten that.

13. The Party needs a major overhaul. The grassroots Demo's
have principles but most of the elected Demo's have yielded to the Dark side of politics. Most of them are rich and really don't associate with the majority moderate middle class. Why is the Party running Hilary? She is a "Politician" with some kind of power base. No one asked the grass roots Demo's who we want. I think Barbara Boxer is more to our liking. But the political wheels are in motion and when the smoke clears, Hilary will be "our" candidate. Let's start a grass-roots movement for Boxer in 2008.

14. This is especially evident on the Iraq war
"The grassroots Demo's have principles but most of the elected Demo's have yielded to the Dark side of politics."

Agreed. The following is just one of many examples:

15. its not just that
we need to find a leader who is influential, who can actually MOVE people. Enough of these men who stand at our conventions and groan. We must have leadership, nothing but compassion and persistance can overtake these neo-concervatives.

2. If you don't know what you, as a person, stand for, you have problems.
If you claim you don't know what Democrats stand for, read:

25. And the ban on "assault weapons" will be the first to be deleted...
...from future DNC platforms if I and like-minded RKBA Dems have anything to say about it.

It's time we reclaim responsible gun ownership as a progressive virture rather than let the NRA run off with it.

But we'll need to keep listening to Michael Moore so he can continue to make sure "the better angels of our nature" are not suppressed.

if you need proof, look at the right fighting us...whatever they say they are against must be because we are for it? Right?

we agree on as a party. This is what the GOP is trying to
exploit.

5. Well, I'd say
Democrats believe in mutual responsibilities that strenthen our individual rights, in conservation of resources, in working towards the long-term good of the people, a strong America, not just a strong army, in ensuring that all Americans take part in our prosperity.

6. too many Democrats stand only for "winning" ...
and that's not standing for anything at all ... the Party does NOT know what it stands for ...

"bit tent" means they stand for almost anything that will help them win ...

we need to put democracy back into the Party so that ALL Democrats can help define what the Party stands for ...

9. A National Party cannot survive & grow if it does not win
That's why the Whigs, the Reform, & the Libertarians, the Independence folks don't get anywhere. The Dems have to evolve & adjust & win elections to keep going.

Every coalition needs people who simply hate the other side more than our side.

The left wing of the party needs to have a reality check with itself.
Right now this country is split between the repubs & the non repubs. Those are the current two options. Either we band together as necessary or the party becomes a vehicle to promote republican domination.

10. I think the left wing has been right all along
i.e. the war, individual liberties, etc.

It's the DINOs who need the reality check.

12. When will our party start acting like NON-repubs?
If our party becomes repub-lite, why would anybody vote for us? We need to have a morally separate identity, not a weak version of the greed and religious fanaticism that fuels the repubs.

23. And if that means promising to agree with the repugs on everything
that matters, like the DLC wants, you can get behind that?

Is power in name only ever worth it?

17. To quote the great George Lakoff:

"Stronger America, Broad Prosperity, Better Future, Effective Government, Mutual Responsibility."

ALL OF YOU MUST GO GET "Don't Think of an Elephant" by Lakoff NOW.

It's only $10, so you can't say it's too expensive.

18. The Democratic Agenda is....
I'm sick and tired of these "whats the democratic agenda?" or "why don't we have an agenda?" posts. Its as if you've all never looked or tried to look. The Democrat Agenda, click on the "issues" button and you'll see a list with all the talking points you need it also includes the names and numbers of each senate bill.

here is a shortened list of some of the favorites.

S.11: Guard and Reserve Bill of Rights
S. 12: Targets the Terrorists More Effectively
S. 13: Fulfilling Our Duty to America's Veterans
S. 14: Expanding Economic Opportunity
S. 15: Quality Education for All
S. 17: Democracy Begins at Home

so please the next time you have doubts about the Democratic Agenda or those GOP talking points start sounding true just look up the agenda on the Internet.

22. I think we're talking about the huge gap between rhetoric and action.
It all sounds nice. That doesn't mean our democratic representatives act in accordance with any of this rhetoric most of the time.
