Trying to lose weight/gain muscle again - any good sites or books...
with steady "ramp up" programs? When I moved here five years ago I fell from 170 to 145 or so. I have since gained back 10 lbs. because I have been sedentary.

I did Body for Life which was great, but I'm looking for a good book or site that will give me the flexibility to do the exercises I like but still offers me a schedule. I don't have the same energy for Body for Life as I did five years ago. Does anyone have any suggestions?

1. Since you're looking for something flexible ...
the best place would be the gym. Perhaps you can find a 24 hour one. If not, or prefer to be home, then a home gym, or a BowFlex.

3. just finished a resistance training course
And my teacher has two books out. One is available online but I can't remember the name of it. I'll try to get it and post back. Both of the books have incredibly good advice about how to stage your workouts.

4. This book is great -- "The Metabolism Advantage: An 8-Week Program to Rev Up Your Body's Fat-Burning
Machine---At Any Age" by Dr. John Berardi

I have done body for life, which is great -- but you can't live that way forever

This book however is a more permanent life change -- it has really been working for me. He explains the science of nutrition and raising your metabolism really well. Good recipes and workouts. Around

Fitness trainer and nutritionist Berardi presents a body transformation program that cranks up your metabolism for healthier living.

In this easy-to-digest guide to boosting your metabolism, Berardi works on three aspects of healthy living: nutrition, exercise and dietary supplements. The nutrition plan covers the components of a healthy diet and provides recipes and meal plans aimed at helping to feed muscle and burn fat. The exercise element combines interval and strength training, with clear photographs depicting exercises and simple free-weight workouts. In the section on dietary supplements, Berardi emphasizes the importance of including in your diet fish oil, protein, greens, creatine and recovery drinks. Every section is valuable, but Berardi is most helpful in his discussions of the intagibles: how to ingrain the three aspects as habits, how to maintain strong will power, why setting sensible goals is critical.

A sensible, all-encompassing program to ramp up your energy and well-being.
