A Pet Peeve of Mine
I usually work out quite often during the week (usually 6 days). However, there is something I find very irritating. The people who seem to have rest periods on the machines you need to use of what feels like 20 minutes or more. The last time I tried asking someone if they were almost done in, I think 2005, the person got pretty angry at me. What's a better way to deal with this? Usually, I go on to a different one, but I'm not always able to do that, either.

1. I believe the phrase is "Do you mind if I work in?"
i.e. "Do you mind if I use the equipment while you are resting." I think that good gym manners would dictate that they say yes.

5. Its Common Gym Etiquette - Only January "New Years Resolvers" Usually Don't Get It
You know the ones who fill up them gym for a month or so each year and think the machines and benches are recliners? About a third of them get pissed if anyone tries to give them any help.

7. They take up all the parking spots, too.
I'll get to the gym and think, what on earth is happening here? Oh yeah, January.....

8. Yes Those Are the Dear Folks Who Drive Around Until a Close Spot Opens
Gawd forbid they had to walk very far on their way to exercise. Have you tried to use any of the abdominal equipment this month? Nearly impossible.

2. Rest periods of 20 minutes?
Or using machine for 20 minutes with rest periods between sets?

6. Oh We Have A Couple Premadonnas Who Expect People To Not Use Something
while they walk off and have a ten minute conversation - and promptly struts over all pissed off if someone dares use the completely unattended bench - idiots.

4. I'll easily use the squat rack or the bench for 20 minutes
Just kindly ask if you can work in or how many sets you have left. Most won't take it personally like who you described. However, on free wights if you ask to work in make sure you can put up the same weight. I had someone ask to work in with me on the squat rack, busy day, and he proceeded to strip off 275 pounds I had and squatted the bar. Not that there is anything wrong with squatting the bar but it takes time to reload all the plates and he didn't even help.
