Time again for "What's your Pet Workout Peeve?"
Mine is a gentleman at the pool. He is always there. Always. Okay--Good workout ethic. But--he wears flippers and works the surface of the pool like a Mississippi Riverboat.

What's the burr in your workout saddle?

1. Some ventilation in the weight room.
We've all heard the expression "work up a sweat", but this is ridiculous. Even some fans in the weight area would be nice. No windows in the weight room/cardio area.

7. Eww.
No Plug-In(tm) is going to take care of that. The management really should be addressing that.

2. I have a few
1)People doing curls in the squat rack
2)People just sitting on equipment reading magazines and not working out
3)People yacking on cell phones right next to me. If you need to do business that's one thing but when you're just yacking about garbage at least take it to the corner or outside, better yet leave the cell phone in the locker
4)The old guys that carry around coffee and do a rep here or there mostly meeting with the geriatric crew talking about the good old days when all the young people didn't come to my place
5)16 year old brats lifting too much weight for them, bench and curls and slamming the weight and flexing in the mirror like a badass
6)Poor form on exercises
7)The weird old naked guys hanging out in the locker room not working out just being naked and wanting to talk to me
7)People doing curls in the squat rack

3. Poor form is a big one with me
of course I would never say anything to anyone, but I often wish I could. Of course, the person w/ the bad form is usually looks to be in much better shape than I am and if I ever said anything (not that I would, but...) they would look at me and say "yeah, right!"

4. When other people leave their stuff on things to "reserve" them
whether it be a piece of workout equipment or the shower stall w/ the really good water pressure, if you're not presently using something, it should be available for someone else to use.

5. You have my permission to move that stuff!
The entitlement attitude that "reserving for use" displays really gets under my skin.

6. People that are naked when you get there,
naked when you finish your workout, and still naked when you have showered, dressed and are leaving. Those people are just not working out.

8. The only time I'm naked is when I'm in the shower
I come out of the stall in my under-garments

9. Where do I begin?
1. Too much weight and poor form to move it. Moe Mentum doesn't have a membership, and he shouldn't be helping you;
2. Strip the plates off the bars and rack them. Since when is lazy the in thing at the gym?
3. No, actually your singing sucks. They're headphones, not speakers, for a reason;
4. Put the weights down without throwing or dropping them;
5. As much as I REALLY want to overhear the tale about that "skank" that you allegedly "banged" last night, let's think of the youngsters within earshot, k? Thanks.
6. Cell phone? I don't think so.

Gosh, I could go on and on...

10. Here's my looong list
1) The sun in my eyes
2) high wind
3) precipitation
4) the lack of air conditioning
5) (anticipated in 7 months) the lack of central heating
6) biting insects
7) wearing sunscreen

Yes, I have ditched my gym membership in favor of outside kettlebell work. I am getting a 32 kg KB shortly, and plan on adding a 100 lb sandbag to the routine in the fall. If this stuff doesn't get me into shape nothing will. I will need warmer outdoor clothing come winter, if that's not enough to keep me going in Januaru I will just have to get tougher :)

11. remember to buy clothing that wicks moisture away
If you sweat and stay wet, you'll freeze in cold weather.

Yes, the clothing is more expensive, but you'll need it.
