Sunday, May 28: I just went on a bicycle ride, that's all the work
out I'm gonna do. 17 miles, averaged just under 13 mph. A good ride!

1. I rode about 25 miles Friday
and it went much better than the week before. I only averaged about 12 miles per hour, though. These hills really kill my average, even with the motor, especially when you consider that I was going up to 35 mph down the hills!

I'll be doing 34 miles round trip beginning Tuesday when the summer semester begins.

2. I'm in N. Fla, mostly flat. On one of my usual routes I have a

couple of long, gradual climbs and two overpasses where I cross over the interstate. Yesterday I stopped at a convenience store for a bottle of water, and a state trooper said I wouldn't make it "back up that hill." I cannot imagine riding in some of the real hills that I've seen in pictures posted on bicycling forums. I think I'll stick to this flat area.

BTW. How much weight do the motor and battery add to your bike? And do you notice it when you're just pedaling (w/o motor)?

5. I dream about flats sometimes
but I'm sure that can get boring and then I wouldn't have the fun of the downhills. :D

The battery and motor and fairly chunky mountain bike add up to about 75 pounds! :wow: However, the only time I notice all that weight is when I put the bike on my trunk rack (without the battery so it weighs about 50 pounds) and when I'm going uphill without the motor. But the rest of the time, it doesn't really feel any different. When I'm going long distances, such as to work, I have to carry a second battery that I hook up in parallel for additional amp hours, so then my bike weighs about 95 pounds. I still don't notice the weight -- as long as the motor is working. ;)

My hope is that I'll eventually offset the weight of the batteries and motor by losing weight myself! :)
