Okay folks, list 'em: 2006 Fitness Goals
We've taken a look back, we're off to a good start. Now, post it for all to see...what do you want to achieve/accomplish in 2006 as far as your fitness/strength/weight goals go?

I'll go first, I guess. I want to lose 15 lbs of blubber. I want to replace it with 20 lbs of lean mass. It's a huge stretch, but I'm up for it. I want to grow proportionately, to the tune of an inch on each arm. Big order, there. I want to bring my upper legs into the same league as the rest of me. I don't do squats, so that's a tough one.

I want to hit the gym, 6 days a week with the form, focus and intensity of the Gods. I want to stay injury-free. I want to put my fat ass on a better cardio routine.

Hold me to it.

Now you...

1. I want to exercise an hour a day and monitor my food.
For now, I'm doing the elliptical but when school starts in a couple of weeks, I'll also bicycle commute. I rejoined Weight Watchers Online in order to monitor my food intake and track my progress.

I'm focusing on making these changes rather than a specific result. Of course, I'm hoping for increased fitness and weight loss but I'll be happy with whatever progress I make.

2. OK here goes
By my birthday in Mid Feb I want to deadlift 350 and lose 10 lbs.
By the end of the year I want to lose another 10.
I want to do a century ride with my son this summer.
I want to climb a V4 boulder problem outdoors.
I want to close the #2 CoC gripper.
And most important stay injury free. I haven't seen the ortho in 6 months and would like to keep it that way.

I don't want much do I?

3. Lose 20 lbs....
Drop my body fat drastically...down to between 10 -12 %

Gain lean muscle. Not necessarily big muscle...that can come later. I want to be leaner, with muscle instead of fat.

Completely focused. 6 days a week like you...maybe one body part per day. And incorporate cardio into it.

I'm seriously thinking of starting Body for Life. I think a challenge like that will keep me disciplined and help me change my life, as far as fitness and nutrition, permanently

And you hold me to that.

13. Body for Life is a very good program
no foods are really off limits, but eating 6 times a day takes some getting used to. I lost 30 pounds on this diet a few years ago. Good luck.

4. my goals
i want to eat better by limiting my fats and carbs. I want to start going to the gym at least 3 times a week. I want to be fit enough to climb Mt washington with some friends later this spring or early summer. I want to be able to compete in a mini triathalon in early summer that a friend is trying to talk me into doing. In the long run, I want to outlive my Father and Grandfather who both died at the age of 55 from heart disease.

7. What triathlon are you looking into?
I hope to do one as well, but I have been adviced that for my first one, I will probably like the all-woman Danskin sprint triathlon at Webster Lake (usually the last weekend in July).

6. My turn
My immediate goal is to lose 20 lbs in the next 2 months. Yes, that's a lot, but remember, I do have my bypass surgery to help. I simply need to follow the rules (for the post-surgery diet) and to work my butt on at the gym.

I will be at the gym 5 days every week, and when the weather is good I'll drive in and use the pool on Sundays.

I hope to do a sprint triathlon this summer, a 10K race in October, and be well on my way towards training for a half-marathon by the end of the year.

I would like to break a 12 minute mile by mid-year. (Today's run was 13.31.)

I want to decrease my body fat by at least 10 percentage points.

I too would like to remain injury free.

I also want to look into what it would take to become a teacher.... a gym teacher.

9. I've decided that my diet is holding me back some.
I think my workout regimen is sufficient for getting me where I want to go. I need to tweak it a bit, but it's good for me. I've seen some results since resuming my workouts in September. I'm not trying to win fitness contests, just be in better shape. But, my diet is still for crap. I eat too much processed foods, and even though it's low in calories and fat for the most part, it's still not as healthy as food I prepare myself. So, I'm hoping that a better diet will allow me to be trimmer and in better overall health.

10. For the whole year?
I'd like to get back down to a size 12 or even a size 10.
I'd like to do this in a healthy way: good diet, some cardio, maybe some weights to add muscle.
I'd like to keep up and expand the yoga and do at least 200 classes over the year.

12. Mine
1. Get my knees back in order; finish rehabbing the one one that has been operated upon, and have the surgery and rehab the one that still needs it.

2. Drop 20 pounds of fat from around my hips and thighs.

3. Improve my posture.

4. Work up to a walking pace of 4 miles an hour without injuring myself. (currently 3.3 is my max speed without jogging).

5. Eat a healthy, sustainable diet and continue my daily workouts.

6. Prove the point that my body does not respond to diet and exercise like most people's bodies do.

15. more cardio!
I am trying to fit into my (very expensive) jeans that I could wear 3 years ago. As it is now, my "fat" jeans are a little snug. :-(

Am also trying to cut down on more carbs and fat; exetremely difficult, since pasta is my favorite food.

Good luck everyone with your goals! :hi:

17. my plans for 2006
hit the gym 2-3X a week (it's on the other end of town, so not economical to go everyday) & exercise at home (walking, dvd, other) on the days i don't hit the gym for spinning class.

keep eating healthier foods, stay away from processed stuff, & make my own meals from scratch (or as close to it as possible).

don't fret so much about the damn scale (it lies, i tell you, LIES) & focus more on the smaller & smaller sizes my butt is getting into.

i started ww in late march 2003, lost 50 lbs. & have kept it off, just need to get the other 50 to pack its bags too....

22. Where are you now?
325 as a one rep max, or 325 for reps? Also, just as a curious measure of strength, so to speak, how much do you weigh? 325 is a good chunk of iron.

I hope you get there.

20. I had to think about this for a long time.
I am happy with my weight and general appearance and I think my diet is healthy. Most people either have a fitness goal they want to achieve or a body goal. I really don't have either. But I am not happy with my workouts, either. I believe that people do the things that matter to them, and right now my focus is on my family, my political activism and renovating our home. But I do love to workout and need to do it to feel well, both physically and emotionally. So what I need is a good routine that doesn't take too much time so I can focus on the things that are really important to me right now. Maybe when the kids are older and I have more time I can try to climb 5.12 again, or get certified as a yoga instructor. But right now, I am not interested enough to put in the time that those goals would require.

So what I have come up with is this:

Ditch the gym membership. It was great when the kids were smaller, but my routine and needs have changed and I no longer need the childcare. I would be happier doing something else somewhere else.

Do 20-30 minutes cardio 5 days a week. I am getting older. I sense that I need more cardio, both for heart health and to maintain weight. Weight is not a problem currently, but I can't eat the way I could when I was 20, either. I have a new elliptical, so that should be a big help on low motivation days when I don't want to run outside. I know most people here are doing more time, but I am easily bored and don't need to lose any weight, so the shorter times work for me. If I do more I get bored and frustrated and quit entirely. But I can do anything for 20 minutes.

Take one hard yoga classed a week. Two is better, but I am right now I am too busy.

Either practice yoga at home or climb 4 days a week. Just short yoga practices, maybe 20 minutes. I usually manage to climb at least once.

I think this routine might work to keep me general fit and decrease stress, and also be enough fun that it doesn't feel like a job. I'll keep you posted!

21. Sounds perfect.
Hey, if you're not happy in the gym, dump it. Like you said, you workout to feel well, physically and emotionally. If it's not something you can enjoy, you're kind of sabotaging it up front.

Still jealous about you scoring that kickass elliptical...

23. I have several.
I'd like to lose some weight, maybe 20 lbs. or so. However, I need to get my headaches and neck problems under control first. I'm making some headway (no pun intended) there. I have an appointment at the Pain Clinic on 1/23 with a doctor who specializes in headaches.

I'd also like to run a 5K but this may not be the year, given the neck problems. We shall see. At this point, I'm glad I can work out 3-4 times a week as it is. So in some ways, maintaining that level of fitness is a goal in itself. :)

25. To be a Hero in the Gym ............
Unleash 100% maximum intensity during weight training on every set. (High-intensity training)

Value logic over emotion in directing my training.

Increase my total body range of motion (flexibility).

Record my food intake with the same anal detail of my training records.

Remain injury free.

Shred back down to single digit percent body fat.

Bring weak points into par with the rest of my body (symmetry)
