including bluebirds! I somehow had never seen any before!)

Cowbird pair (boo hiss)

Summer tanager

Eastern Phoebe (woke us up at the b and b we stayed at)

barn swallows (well, I had seen plenty of those before)

Purple Martins ( I had seen em as a kid)

Red winged blackbirds

Blue heron

grackles

carolina wren

house wren

we saw a lot of hawks and we think this is a red tail? What do you guys think? They were difficult to see, but the view of the wings from below showed a half white, and half-black divide.

(buzzard hawk). On edit: your picture ALMOST looks like a turkey vulture though...
Aren't bluebirds beautiful? I've been lucky to see both Eastern Bluebirds and Mountain Bluebirds. Both gorgeous.
I have a sneaky respect for cowbirds. Brood parasitism is kinda interesting.
I've never seen a summer tanager though.

4. well, what looked like a summer tanager could have been a female scarlet
tanager- but it was really yellow all over...

yeah, after we got home I was reading Letters from Eden by Julie Zickafoos and she was talking about how common buzzards and turkey vultures are out that way. So that makes sense.

2. That's definitely a Turkey Vulture.
You should have mentioned you'd be in Adams County, I could have given you some tips on good places for Barred Owl, Whip-poor-will, Chuck-wills-widow...

:hi: Maybe next time!

- we really loved it out there, just gorgeous. We stayed at the Murphin Ridge Inn, it was a bit upscale for us, but it was so lovely and quiet and romantic since the kiddo was away on his school trip!

How is your little one, or little ones?
