A Rock Band Regroups, One Show at a Time
LEAVING Boulder, Colo., on the night of Oct. 30, Nick Ghanbarian could feel his life falling into place. His rock band, Bayside, was playing better than ever, and to bigger crowds, more than halfway across the country from his home in Deer Park. Three days earlier, while stepping onstage in Indianapolis at the start of the six-and-a-half-week tour, he had felt no jitters, only a sense that he had finally arrived where he was meant to be.

In Boulder, Mr. Ghanbarian, who plays bass in the four-member band, explored the city and spent time with friends while Bayside's singer and guitarist, Anthony Raneri, and drummer, John Holohan, sat for television interviews.

After the show that night, Mr. Ghanbarian chatted with fans at the merchandise table, helped pack up equipment and piled into the band's van for a late-night drive to Salt Lake City. He then lay across the third bench seat to rest at the end of a whirlwind day.

His memories after that are sketchy, but a little after 3 a.m. on Halloween there was ice and sliding, and then Mr. Ghanbarian, 25, woke up on the side of the road near Cheyenne, Wyo., with a broken back. The van was on its side, and Dan Marino, a crew member, had broken facial bones. Mr. Holohan, 31, who was also thrown from the van, was dead after sustaining skull fractures.

Not really any reason for me to post this, but they're one of my favorite bands and I actually saw them play tonight.
