Beautiful service at Unity Church today
we went to see our friend, Martha Moore Stevens, speak. If you ever have a chance to hear this wonderful lady, do so. She has followed the Path of Love since she was five, and was healed by a vision of Jesus. She teaches the importance of remembering our Unity with the One, and offers practical advice on how to maintain peace and unity: when you feel bad emotionally, forgive yourself your misperceptions/misporjections. And be thankful for the chance of experiencing the feeling. Then let it go with love and with trust-trust in That Which Is All.

1. "That which is all"
I like that.

It makes me think of the Sanskrit meditation mantra "Ham Sah" - which means "I am that" (or "I am that which is all" or "I am the Self*" or "I am the life force" etc.).

"Ham" as you draw in your breath = "I am"...

"Sah" is released on the out-breath.

-wildflower

*"Self" meaning the greater Self within all.

2. thank you for the practice
The Dances of Universal Peace have a dance called Tat Sam Asi, which says "You are That which you are seeking". This practice goes along with it.

3. Hi, Wildflower.

My church's founder, Ernest Holmes, was highly influenced by Hindu philosophy/religion, via a Western philospher (and judge) named Troward.

That's why Religious Scientists (a New Thought church like Unity) believe 'I am that which is all.'

We start our prayers with that sentiment.

This is cool.

I'm glad to see a DUer (our own Original Poster, Ayeshah..) going to Unity!

6. Welcome, Tux!
You've given me something to think about.

Off the top of my crazy head, I say, 'the One is never reduced - it is all - and is true abundance.'

11. The New Thought churches, such as Unity and Religious Science,
borrowed heavily from Hindu teachings (and/or philosophical teachings from around the India/Pakistan area).

Ernest Holmes, founder of Religious Science, for example, was heavily influenced by a philosopher named Troward, who apparently had studied Hindu teachings extensively.

Ernest was called "The Great Synthesizer," because he combined the world's religious teachings in a unique way.

5. What is Unity Church?
I just met someone who goes to Unity Church in NYC, but I don't know this person well enough to drill her on her religion or fellowship or whatever it is (mean no disrespect, I just don't really know what it is, but I am interested.)

7. Unity, Divine Science, and Religious Science are what are called ..

New Thought Churches. As you have a new thought, so shall you have a new experience.

Here is my church ... Church of Religious Science ...

www.rsintl.org.

Unity is Religious Science with more of a Christian Consciousness flavor, in my humble opinion.

Both churches focus on the power of the mind and the power of positive affirmation/thinking.

I also like attending the Unitarian-Universalist church.

I have decided to call myself a 'New-thought Unitarian-Universalist.'

If you can be a Christian UU, or a Pagan UU, you can certainly be a New-thought UU.

Let me try to find that Unity link. Here it is:
Unity,
http://www.unity.org/ ,
http://www.unity.org/webelieve.html (what Unity congregants believe).

Thoughts?

9. Thanks for the info!
It's very interesting, however I like the Church of Religious Science better than Unity as I am not into the Bible or Jesus.

I did go to UU as a child and a few times in adulthood and would say it is most in line w/ my spritual views.

Thanks :hi:
