The power of vulnerability
Brene Brown: The power of vulnerability

Brene Brown studies human connection -- our ability to empathize, belong, love. In a poignant, funny talk at TEDxHouston, she shares a deep insight from her research, one that sent her on a personal quest to know herself as well as to understand humanity. A talk to share.

1. Thanks, Dover.
It's things like this that put sunshine into a bleak rainy day.

titled "The Hustle For Worthiness" that is so insightful. And there is a section where she speaks with great empathy about how men especially have a difficult time expressing vulnerability and other feelings (translated as "weakness") in our culture and just how alone, stuck and oppressed many men feel with all of that, withholding big important pieces of themselves.

She also has other talks available online and books if you're interested in hearing/reading more.
My feeling is that we ALL have much to gain by learning to live and express ourselves authentically, risk vulnerability and interact with empathy. And we can begin right now, in the present, in our next conversation...be it with others or with ourselves. Can we express empathy for ourselves?

However I don't think that our cyber environment is terribly conducive to that breadth and depth of interaction.

4. I have looked at her site
Thank you for mentioning that. I'm definitely adding her insight to this new journey I am embarking on. I've come to a point in my life where I need to alter my thought process. Learn to except my faults and failures. It's difficult.

And yes, the cyber world has been what I call "Tweeterized". I even read an article in National Geographic published a few years ago on 'Memory'. There is concern that people are retaining less information because they rely so much on technology and there is no interaction or as what is referred to as 'Connection'. We are losing touch with ourselves and other people.

5. You might also enjoy some of the tools that Marshall Roseberg
provides for going through the process of changing the way our minds are conditioned to think (negative messages, judgement, guilt, anger) and rewiring our thoughts and communications. Self love and empathy.
Examining the triggers that are the catalyst for the thoughts, the feelings that come
up and what the need is behind behind them that is not being addressed. It means acknowledging that no one can MAKE us feel bad...our thoughts and how we interpret the message is the culprit. In order for someone to 'make' us feel bad we must already hold those negative thoughts within ourselves.

Anyway, he seems to deal with many of the same things that Brene Brown covers and offers ways of changing it in the present moment.

6. Thank you
I will spend some time looking into Marshall Roseberg. I try not to overload myself too much but you've touched on a few subjects that I really need to focus on with your Roseberg reference.

Again. Thank you.
