A Blessed Christmas to Each and Every One of You
With our iffy weather, who knows if we'll all be snowed in, but I'm sitting here listening to the King's College Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on our local public radio station, and it's just plain inspiring to an old choir geek like me.

In that spirit, I'd like to post one of my favorite Christmas videos, the choristers of St. Paul's Cathedral, London, from about ten years ago, sing Benjamin Britten's "Balulalow" from A Ceremony of Carols. The soloist is Edward Burrowes, one of three brothers who were all well-regarded trebles. Not only is the performance wonderful, but the expressions on the boys' faces are priceless:

1. Thank you!
I can't believe I haven't checked in here before in this Advent/Christmas season. I guess I've been busy as a mod. Some people apparently think this is the time for misbehavior on the internet message boards. If I were Santa some folks would get coal.

I hope everyone has a blessed Christmas and a wonderful new year. I'll be going to the early service at St. Paul's tonight. If I don't fall asleep, I may go back for the midnight service. With our glorious choir and our awesome new rector, I'm sure it'll be an Experience. I'm doing altar guild tomorrow morning, so I'll be back then.

If I get to all 3, the rector will probably wonder, "What? You again?" but it'll be worth it to see his smile.

And it brought back a sweet memory: the last time my brother and I were home for Christmas together (was that really 19 years??), he and I got through a rather disappointing worship service by singing all the carols in boychoir voices. Since that night, we've been apart at Christmas with our own churches to pastor, yet every year I'd find a moment to sing one of the carols in my "boychoir voice," and feel my brother with me.

Tonight, he is pastoring another worship service, and I am home alone, listening to the freezing rain on the skylight, worshipping by television and internet. Thank you for sharing the music, which once again brought that memory back to me.

Merry Christmas!
