6. A Catholic prayer
Rest and Peace grant unto her, O Lord, and may Eternal Light shine upon them.

May his/her/their soul(s), and all the souls of the faithful departed, by the Grace of God, Rest In Peace.

16. I'm so sorry about this and I know you're probably still in great shock
Just being around family and friends right now will be so important for you and your dad.

We should all realize that this forum is important to you since you posted twice as things were happening, so please let us know what you may need from us. You have always been very thoughtful and positive (and helpful) in your communication with others here at DU, so maybe there is something we can do for you now.

I just lost a parent in September after a brief illness, but I can't imagine having to deal with it so suddenly as you are. He was 80 and I'm just a few years younger than your mom, but still it was hard.

I'm so, so sorry for the loss of your mother - please know that we are thinking about and praying for you both.

18. I am sorry for your loss as well. We are doing some things
to honor my mother's memory, at least two of which DUers could help with.

1) We are fixing up my parent's house to rent out to a teacher. (Dad will move in with his mother.)

2) We are starting a scholarship. (She was a special ed teacher.)

3) She was an avid reader so we are asking for books to be donated to her favorite library in her name. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x2549455

5. I am so sorry to hear that.
I pray that as the Lord welcomes your mother into his kingdom, he brings comfort and strength to you and your dad, and everyone else who knew your mom. Death seems to be the hardest on those left behind.

Oh, I'm so sorry you are going through this. You and your dad will be in my prayers. Your mom's energy will always surround, comfort, and protect you and your dad. And I thank Spirit for the blessings she gave to us while she was here. She will always be remembered fondly.

We are here to listen.

15. I responded above ..
but I'm trying to think about what I would want someone to say to me if my loved one died.

I would want them to state openly and freely - that they were there to listen to what I had to say - and assist me in honoring my family member. This would help me focus and get through the profound shock.

So, GreenPartyVoter, we are here to honor you beloved mother in the way you see fit.

17. From the Book of Common Prayer
O God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day
our sister. We thank you for giving her to us, her
family and friends, to know and to love as a companion on
our earthly pilgrimage. In your boundless compassion,
console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate
of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue
our course on earth, until, by your call, we are reunited with
those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

to talk about her and to hear that others miss her presence, even if they never met her.

23. How are you holding up, GPV?
I've been thinking about you, and hope you're doing ok. I love the tribute to your mom - is that her in your avitar?

For you: a prayer from our Methodist funeral service

O God, who gave us birth,
you are ever more ready to hear than we are to pray.
You know our needs before we ask, and our ignorance in asking.

Give to us now your grace,
that as we shrink before the mystery of death,
we may see the light of eternity.

Speak to us once more
your solemn message of life and of death.

Help us to live as those who are prepared to die.
And when our days here are accomplished,
enable us to die as those who go forth to live,
so that living or dying, our life may be in you,
and that nothing in life or in death will be able to separate us
from your great love in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Amen.

Peace be with you.
