the downside of kids doing chores- dead washing machine. every silver
lining has a cloud.
so, i have a stacked maytag neptune pair. it is at least 10 or 12 years old. i know this is a simple case of teenage operator abuse. simple overloading. this has happened once before. they smash a wax motor, which burns out a resistor on the control board. so, a few parts, a trip to the repair place for a solder, not large.
i think, tho, that this is the one of the three wax motors that was all but impossible to get to. i could get them out here to fix it, but they would insist on replacing the control board, and it would be long dough.
so, looking like it is time to stimulate the economy, and cough it up. need a stacked pair.
any opinions?

1. If you can manage, get a front loader washer
You can get an expensive washer and a cheap dryer. The washers are nearly impossible to overload since they wash by turning the drum on an axis, not by turning an agitator in the middle of crammed-in clothes. They use less water (vitally important here in the desert and somewhat important elsewhere) and some of them use less electricity.

It's a case of more cost up front to save repair cost later.

2. i would only ever have a front loader.
although i had one back in the day when the vibrations were ridiculous. the one that died is a maytag neptune, which uses water to balance. it has been a good machine that has had a lot, lot, lot of use.
plus, i need a stacked pair. there are top loaders that stack, but i don't see the sense in that.
looking at this one-http://www.abt.com/product/41490/Whirlpool-WFW9450WL.html

3. Mrs. Robb, in a fit of buying before I moved into the house
...Long story, but she was there for a month before I could get moved. Anyhow, she had enough money in the bank to do it and had "always wanted one like that" so she bought the cherry red LG front loaders.

Wow. I about fell over when I found out how expensive they were. But done is done. And, I should add, I've had nothing but extremely satisfying washing and drying experiences since, it's only been a year but I've been living in the lap of laundry luxury and loving it. Pardon the alliteration. :D

4. ok, we bought a pair of bosch. here's the thing
they put them together for us, but they are designed to stand alone. so the controls for the dryer are way up there, where the short people can barely reach. just clumsy. crud is going to get into the joint. grr.
spendy $2200 and what do you expect. and they took my actual metal vent, and replaced it with flex. the parrot will eat through that by the end of the week. they replaced my nice mesh supply lines with cheap rubber. they say they were too short. we will see.
it beeps a lot.
it does seem to be washing the clothes, tho. it has a stain removal cycle that goes for 3 hours. that should convince your stains are gone. and DH can steam his shirt, and never fight the parrots for the iron again.
