Kitchen cabinet reface or re -door
I had never heard of just re-dooring before, but apparently if you don't want to change the cabinet color you can just get new full coverage doors and leave the cabinet facing in place. Because I can't eat out or bring outside food in, and am hypoglycemic besides, I dread being without my kitchen for more than a few hours. This "re-dooring" would be a much quicker job than refacing. Has anyone had this "re-dooring" done? Any advice? The color that would be matched is a very dark brown (currently in '70's style formica, but new doors would be wood in approximately the same shade).

1. Sure,changing the doors and drawers
will face lift your kitchen. Do you have any cabinet making shops in your locality ? You can save a lot of money by going direct to a cabinet makers shop. That is where builders buy cabinets for kitchen remodels.

For example, home depot has a kitchen bath remodel desk where those vultures are waiting to sell you yer dream kitchen. They will design yer kitchen right there before your eyes in computer graphics.
They will also come to yer home and do the measurements. And they will make you think they will take care of every little thing.

But what they do is send those measurements to a cabinet making shop nearby, unless of course you buy their pre fabs in the store. The mark up on those cabinets is ,lets just say, unreal !
And home depots people really don't install those cabinets, that work is sub contracted out.

But you can buy those doors yourself straight from the cabinet shop.Sometimes they come out and measure. Or, they tell you to get a contractor over to yer house to do the measurements. They make the doors, stain those doors and send those doors over to you. They may install those doors,or they may tell you to have yer contractor install the doors. You save a lot of money no matter which way it comes about !

Look up cabinet making shops in your locality !Give um a call !

3. I re-doored (and re-faced the cabs) several years ago
I like the idea of full coverage doors, price both though -- another day or two of workers might be worth it, unless you're quite certain you can live with the color you see every time you open the door. ;)

6. The idea seems to be
that they color match the new door to the old facing. That's what seemed new to me. We'll see when the salesman comes out. Thanks !
