Has anyone every put in a roof fan?
I don't know if that's what it's called (or is it a roof exhaust fan?). Not the whole house fan, but the kind that works for the roof. If you've put one in, did you see any real utility bill savings?

1. This may help
http://www.airvent.com/homeowner/products/powerVents-powerRoof.shtml
I believe you are talking about Power Attic Vents. It depends on what type of roof style you have and the type of roof ventilation you may have installed now. These are commonly used on hip style roofs where ridge vents cannot adequately perform the required balance of ventilation. You need to balance you roof ventilation between the intake through your soffit area and the exhaust through your roof vents. The best thing to do is call a local roofer and ask for a ventilation calculation. Read through the site I linked to so you know what questions to ask. If he or she does not respond with we will run a calculation for free and help you with this other than try to sell you a new roof keep calling until you find a roofing company that will. Good Luck

2. I put one in.
I can't say how much energy or money it saved........but it made the second floor apartment livable in the hot weather.

3. Thanks
I especially like the making the second floor more liveable! We just finished the room over the garage, and are worried about the summer.

4. We put one of these in:

It is solar powered, so needs no wiring. Simple for a homeowner to install. Completely silent. It cooled our house several degrees in summer (we put in just one for the whole house... should have put in a second one. Ought to be great for your small area.)

"Solar Star is solar powered and "run by the sun". That means humidity and temperature levels never reach critical activation levels that trigger electric powered attic fans. That also means Solar Star requires NO electrical hook-ups, NO electrician and they require NO cost to operate, and best of all, it installs in under 30 minutes." (took us an hour)

Highly recommended!

6. Fabulous!
We've been eyeing one of these and it's nice to read a review from someone who actually owns one!

My question is whether one of these babies could be installed on a metal roof. We have an older, historic home with one of those tin roofs. We need some help with the attic exhaust and we're hoping to go solar.
