Take your camera and enjoy the celebration. The celebrators should be especially happy with the news out of New York.

Report back.

1. I see in our paper that there was a march yesterday, downtown, of women dressed
in wedding gowns, holding signs, in support of the vote to come. I'd have gone had I known. there is a photo of rednecky looking geezers gawking at them.
PRICELESS.

I cetainly support your challenge to go look for celebrations to photograph.

2. We have a large GLBT community here. It should be a wonderful
event. My battery is charged, my feet and back feel OK. I am ready to rumble!

3. It was last week
I don't follow current events that closely. I was working then anyway, as I am today. The news of New York is very good indeed. Will look forward to your photo report.
:hi:

5. Our gay pride festival parade
Edited on Sat Jun-25-11 04:25 PM by Blue_In_AK
was canceled when the the driver of the convertible that the parade marshal was riding in had trouble with the accelerator and ran over a pedestrian, killing the person almost instantly. We didn't see the actual accident, but we did see the paramedics performing CPR and then covering the body in the middle of the street.

Everyone was having a great time. The crowd was large and enthusiastic. The Dykes on Bikes had just zoomed by and then this happened. It was a really tragic start to the day. We did go over to the park strip for the remaining festivities, but understandably everyone was rather subdued. I took a few pictures and will try to post them later, but I'm still kind of processing the morning's events.

6. Oh man, that is horrible. Our fest went well, at least while I was there.

7. It really was a terrible thing.
Everyone was having a good time, a good crowd was showing up -- it was just tragic to have this happen. The parade marshal is devastated.

8. I hope the parade marshal doesn't do anything to himself.

9. Oh, I think he'll be all right.

He is much loved and I'm sure is surrounded by caring people. The one I worry more about is the actual driver of the car. The parade marshal was sitting in the back seat of the convertible, so he was not directly responsible for the accident. The driver is the one I'm more concerned for, a 70-year-old woman who had difficulty with the accelerator. The police are examining the car, of course.

There has been an update to the story here: http://www.adn.com/2011/06/25/1936109/police-identify-pedestrian-killed.html

It's really heart-breaking.
