A minor study of my present pre-occupation: Symmetry

1. I could never be

bored when photography and building/decorating are involved... love the glass blocks; have always wanted to incorporate them. and I appreciate your symmetry since there is little in my house

When I go back to Vermont (July 22-26 for daughter's surgery) I want to tear out my kitchen counter and put down hardwood plywood as a base for tiles... we will see... you are wise enough to get help / me... not so much


last week my daughter and I went into this old abandoned house to see if the old cast iron sink (for our redecorating project) was still there

(the owner, a neighbor, died years ago - a lovely woman, Hazel... and no one has taken over the property - a very good story that needs to be told... Vermont long held the notorious distinction of being the whitest state... my little pocket, I believe, had all the people of color that Vermont held at the time. Two neighbors had adopted boys and Hazel was from down South; never did find out what brought her to Vermont. When her family came up to visit and we all joined to enjoy good company, food, fishing in the brook and lots of laughs, no one would ever guess we were in the "whitest state in the union". That distinction no longer holds but I am a much better person for having known Hazel )

anyways... we found the sink in good shape and now just need to either get permission to take it out or steal it in the cover of darkness :evilgrin:

2. Thanks for your nice response, if you remember the photos of the tearout

of the room, you know I'm CREATING symmetry... just wait to see the finished bath in about a week.:)

I will ask my wonderful best imaginable tile man today what type of back board is best for your counter top, I have a suspicion plywood is not your best choice.
If my ship comes in, and I'm strong enough to unload it, I'll send him on a Vermont vacation to put that kitchen together for you.

I'm trading labor with him to a large degree. He needs a 16 foot trailer lettered on 4 sides, etc.

I think you photo is beautiful. If the sink resides there, I would not call it stealing, i would call it a rescue.

5. I talked to my tile professional and he says:

Most any counter top is wood. You must put concrete board onto that wooden base. Any kind (Lowes - Wonderboard, but any brand is OK) 1/4 inch. And then lay your tile on top of it. If you put tile on wood of any kind the wood will get wet and the tiles will break.

Not that you asked, and maybe you did not even mean to say you would put down a wood surface, but I felt compelled to mention it.

The last time I personally laid tile it was a floor area about 20' wide, stretching through 2 large rooms, then a bath floor and some steps. One week later I stood up and said:
I will NEVER do it again. Not in this life time.
And I did not and won't.
