Please tell me what you think! Here are the words I will preface the contest with

I want to keep this short and simple, but I do want to give the GD folks a little direction on how to interpret our Theme "Negative Space" to help them in the voting.

Please improve it in ways you see appropriate, or re-write it.
I thank you, and the photo is a gift for Alfredo who has been so quiet lately.

Negative Space

To help you evaluate the photographer's aim let me say that in looking at a photo we see Positive Space, which is the subject matter, and Negative space, which is the background to set it off.

Looking at the Negative space can be extremely interesting, often the negative space is of equal value or even of greater visual power.

In looking at the photographs please evaluate how pleasing the interaction of positive and negative space is to you, and also how well you think they are balanced in the image.

1. I think that is a good description. In "The Teachings of Don Juan"
the student was told to look at the shadow of the leaf not the leaf.

MC Escher understood the power of negative space.

2. The "Metamorphosis" by Escher hung in my house,
laminated on plywood, 13'3" long and 12 " tall.
When I moved into a different house I saw the space over the kitchen sink cabinets and it measured 14" x 13'6".
Then I knew I had the right house.
The thing lived with me there until it gave out from living in a kitchen.

Thanks for the memories. Your second one is a segment of the Metamorphosis.

4. I'm kicking this. I guess the quiet means you consider this acceptable?
If anyone thinks it's not necessary I'll be glad to listen to that too, of course.
For all I know I may be alone in thinking this is a valuable tool for the voter.

5. I think it is a good idea to give direction
I really appreciate your doing this. A lot of us have been a bit confused by the subject, so I am certain that at least some of the voters will be too. I am hoping that they will get the basic idea by looking at the photos submitted, but you never know. I have to say I am about 95% sure that my entry is appropriate for negative space, but I can't nudge that to 100%. This should be interesting.

6. Great photo!
Great definition!

Taking a break from more packing. I have to give my chinchillas away. :(

They can go to the states but the next assignment won't allow them in housing and the town's a very small town with next to no options on the economy.So...my fur babies have to have a new home.

8. Thank you Solly. I appreciate the support and I don't
like you are losing your chinchillas one little bit! Rabbits? same thing?

9. The same ones I posted photos of.... They're chinnies.
Rodents from the South America (the Andes)

I got the black with spats just after I moved to Germany.

I love them dearly and will miss them. If I can't find a good home in time the Tierheim will take them for a donation. The organization is fairly good at finding homes for animals.

We leave here in June....unless that changes too. lol

Our furniture goes before we do. (in May)

It's going to be a great contest, Mira! Some truly wonderful photos have been posted for the theme already....I know the submissions will be outstanding!
