1. Ohhhhhh . . . what a great catch!
It's so interesting how the rainbow encircles the sun! I don't think I've ever seen such a phenomenon.

6. yes and what the photo doesn't really capture completely
is that if you look closely at the ring, it really is a rainbow. it had all the colors and everything. you can almost make it out in the photo; I'm guessing some cropping and zooming would show it more clearly. enjoy!

2. It leaves me speechless - thank you so much for bringing it here. Were there
filters involved? How did you do it?

Some reading and another thing for you to look for. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_%28optical_phenomenon%29 The sun and atmosphere can do beautiful things together.

I haven't seen a halo around here but I have seen quite a few sun dogs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_dog But I have a feeling now that you know to look for them you will catch and shoot some sooner than later.

5. no filters...
I set my camera to P and set it to adjust both the lighting and the focus on the center point of the frame. Then I pointed the center point at the middle of the sun and snapped the shot. I was amazed that it turned out. The photo is virtually exactly what I saw with my eyes (through sunglasses). I actually tried taking a shot through my sunglass lens but the bare photo came out much better. Glad you like it!

3. Beautiful halo.
Nice catch. I've gotten a sun dog or two but never get to see a full halo. Great camera work too. Not easy shooting into the sun.

7. shooting this was surprisingly easy
I have a Lumix FX35. I just set it to adjust the light and focus on the center point of the frame, pointed directly at the sun, and snapped the shot. I was expecting it to be all washed out and that I would have to fiddle with the settings and try all sorts of things to get it to come out better but the first shot I took is what you see.

8. That is good to hear.
I would of thought the sun would of left it underexposed. lol I'll have to watch for one with the camera. It was easy to get a sun dog but the actual sun was far enough away that I didn't worry about under exposure. Still a really good catch.
