Poll question: <<<<< Poll for the Theme of April's contest>>>>>> Study it, and please vote
Edited on Fri Apr-01-11 07:38 PM by Mira
Here are the 10 suggestions for the poll. An eleventh came in "Books" that I'm having to let go for this time. Please bring it back to us MissHoneychurch. I like it.

Naturally in the replies to this poll you can discuss this amongst yourselves, you can ask questions of me if you want a clarification.

How long I'll let this run depends on what develops, but I plan to have it decided one way or the other by the 4th or 5th of the month.

Here they are:

PORTRAIT OF A MUSICIAN - this can be a person playing an instrument, or a person that the photographer focuses on who is a member of a group such as an orchestra. But it is intended as a portrait shot of one or two people, not the whole band or orchestra.

FAMILIAR OBECTS SHOWN IN UNFAMILIAR WAYS - everyday objects shown from a different vantage point or angle

DOORS OR GATES Emphasis is on special beauty of the creation, such as carved wood, or wrought iron. Beautiful specimens, in one way or another.

SQUARES we just did circles, we know how to do this

LET'S GET PHYSICAL Sports, exercise, physical activiity, human or animal

APRIL SHOWERS Ephasis on rain water, rainy weather, or rain droplets

MIRRORED IMAGES either in architecture, water, mirrors, your imagination can run free

NEGATIVE SPACE should this be chosen I will try to find examples so the photographers are clear on this important and beautiful concept, especially how critical the background is as a stand alone visual. And how important the balance of the mass of negative vs. positive space is.
If chosen I will also preface it to the GD voting crowd with an explanation.

WOOD natural wood, patterns of wood grain, and wood textures

DANCERS - PARADE As suggested by Tabatha I separated it away from the Musician theme to keep that one clear as a theme of "portrait".

Now think this through, and see what appeals, please don't forget to vote, I'll be around for questions should they arise, what I would like to see happen is a relatively quick development of 4 or 5 favorites, and then I'll re-poll to zero in on the winner

I started a run-off to see how you'll do with only concentrating on the top two.
From this, I hope, a clear front runner will emerge. I'll run the new poll for about 24 hours.

Please Vote!

Thanks.

3. I went to the river today in Heidelberg. Took photos for most of the possible themes.
I have something for the rest. I think I'm covered however the vote turns out.

Thanks for hosting, Mira!!

7. I told myself I was going to take a break and sit April out.
Then the need to go out and take a few shots became too strong. Then I saw the possible themes and told myself I could take some pictures and still not enter. Then there was this musician earning money on the old bridge down below Heidelberg Schloss...so....well... it's all his fault. (and not my lack of self control...I'm not addicted. I can put my camera down any time I want to. I can. Just wait. It could happen.)

:)

8. That's funny. You were undoubtedly given a sign by seeing the musician.
Why did you not want to enter?
Compared to what you just did with the hosting entering a photo is child's play.
Either way the theme turns out I'll be glad to see what you've got. I think the area around Heidelberg's Schloss is beautiful and photogenic all over. Been there only once, about 3 years ago, and I did have my camera close by :)

I'm thinking of sitting out May.

Reason: I won 1st place in May 2009 (theme: Historic American Places) - and 1st in May 2010 (theme: Crazy Hearts)
Should this kind of luck come in threes, then I'd be hosting again in June.
So: simply don't vote for me in May, chances are I probably can't bear not to enter...

9. Lot of stress going on at home right now. We were supposed to move in March
and I got ready for that only to have it delayed. Now we're waiting on the new time. It was OK that we didn't move all things considered. Still...frustrating. I honestly didn't expect to win in February. Hosting was so not on my calendar of things to do in March. lol

The move was supposed to take place at the end of March.

May must be your month! Cool! It's like knowing the future!

It was a beautiful day today. Lots of river traffic, lots of people out having fun. Got shots of people kayaking, canoing, and rowing. Got people biking as well. Got the musician - playing a diatonic hammered dulcimer set in an ornate antique table. Got doors and gates! Too many old buildings not to get the doors, windows, and gates. Got squares in buildings and the stone roads. Varying kinds of shots with negative space. Got padlocks on the bridge from varying angles that turned out well. A little of everything and a lot of other stuff. Some I'm pleased as punch with and some not so great.

I'm gonna see how I feel about them tomorrow. I often change my mind about a photo from one day to the next.

I still may not enter. If I don't, I still have new pictures to choose from at another time..and that's good.

4. I ruined my 1st Nikon taking pictures in the rain.
It never worked right again after visiting the Pittsburgh Vintage Gran Prix in the spring of '05. It finally gave up it's fight with condensation completely and permanently later that summer. Separation anxiety forced me to keep it laying around until it fell hopelessly beyond obsolete last month. After dismantling it for any useful parts, I finally gave it a proper internment in the garbage can. Several digital relationships followed that Nikon, but you never forget your first.

For the love of art, digital photography, and all things Olympus, please don't let it be April Showers. I really like this camera.

RIP Coolpix 2005-2011. I barely got to know you:
