Image Stabilizing Lenses are possibly the COOLEST things EVER!
I wish I could afford one :D

I borrowed my Dad's 75-300 telephoto zoom IS. Went to my football stomping ground ( we get stomped all the time ) and took these photos. It was raining, a light rain, so I had to wipe off his lens and my camera all the time, focusing on his lens because I take extra special care of equipment that isn't mine. Anyway, the super-overcast skies made the doubler I had totally unusable, since the camera wanted a 1/15th exposure with the apeture wide open. Oh well, perhaps I'll get to borrow it when it's sunny.

1. oh, and
I thought this picture was rather neat becuase it had the two opposing teams in the foreground, and the faces of one in the other

the team who's faces are visible won, no surprise there :eyes:

3. Congrats on your new gig
IS does make a diff'. Your shots take on a whole new look being on the field. My fave is #5 (if I counted correctly). Lots of frozen action going on there.

Oh, and I don't know how to break this to you... but I don't think that lens is waterproof.

4. That's why I had it tucked under my arm when I wasn't shooting
and wiped the drops of every minute or so

6. Might I recommend one of these?

You can get other models that fit tighter as well, but this does the trick quite nicely for the price.

7. I was actually going to cut a hole in a burka, so I could walk around
the field looking like a stealthy Darlek

5. That's one of the reasons I'm contemplating switching to Minolta gear
EVERY lens is IS because the stabilizer is on the sensor instead of the lens :).
