IMPORTANT question about the February Contest...
...can we make it the March contest instead?

At this point, we have the Winter Seasonal, which I'll be co-running, coming up for the first half of next month. The problem is, I'm going to be out of town for much of the second half. While I'll have a laptop with me, and will check in when I can, I really don't think running a contest from the road is going to be all-that-workable.

Sliding the monthly contest to March seems to be the best option. If that isn't possible, the only way I can figure out to run this would be to start the Winter Seasonal immediately, instead of at the beginning of February, with the preliminaries running 1/27-1/29 and the finals 1/30-2/1, and opening the entries for the monthly contest 2/1-2/8, with preliminaries 2/10-2/12 and finals 2/13-2/15. That doesn't seem like an optimal schedule for the contest, and wouldn't allow many here enough time to choose their entries.

If anyone has any other ideas, I'd be welcome to considering them.

1. Of course we could wait and move it, that's not a problem. Except we love
our contests, they keep us percolating, and the folks look for them.
We skipped a month last year because of the seasonal, and it made for a really long break that I for one did not like.

Three votes, that's what separated us, first and second place, and for a long time we ran neck to neck and it looked like a shared first prize might be in the offing.

I'm here in February, going nowhere, with not much work and I could easily run the contest in your stead.

If you think this is a possibility you could agree to then I suggest you put in a poll and just poll the photographers.

3. Thanks for offering!
I'll put up a poll with the three alternatives this evening.

4. Wait, am I missing something??
Well, I guess I was. I thought that the winner of the seasonal contests hosts the next seasonal contest. Well, I went back to the archives and found this...

So I was missing something! I could help out in some way, but since 2/14, 2/18, and 2/23 are either semi-holidays or other important days here, I can only help before 2/10. So I'm not likely to be much of a help either.

I guess I need to hang out here more...

5. Well, Matt...
...if you really were planning to do the Winter contest yourself, I'm sure blueraven95 and I wouldn't want to stand in your way.

6. The seasonal could be a challenge. There's no winner or loser.
What we do is post an old totally screwed up image, and we test our skills restoring the image.

7. Maybe I'm tired but .....say what?.....

I read this three times and it does not change that last winter I trudged through the snow, with even a second lens in my pocket, with shoes that had the wrong tread and I slipped a lot, and I took a photo in a friend's back yard that a couple of weeks later won first place.

8. It was poorly written. What I was proposing was someone
post a scan of a damaged image, then we do our best to restore the image.

9. My middle name
on a night
(when I see a rare flawless movie "The King's speech" and come home to Keith being done with Countdown for reasons we don't yet know, and Rachel on Bill Maher's show literally standing up to shut up an obnoxious Republican)
is
"OOPS- fly back on the handle"
Yes, your meaning was not recognizable but there is no telling what made me re-act.
