My contribution to the Photo Group DC Smackdown
I don't know all that fancy cropping and stuff like InTheFlow so here are my one-size-fits-all favorites from the protest weekend. I have about 600 more, but this will do for a start. :)

1. You don't need to crop your photos.
They are beautiful beautiful beautiful as is!

I'm so glad you posted the giant dancing puppets. That's one of my two favorites. The other one is those 3-D cardboard doves. You got such a great photo of them.

But no clown? I can't believe the clown didn't make it into your top smackdown photos!

3. I'll probably post more later...
I was just trying to get a few out there. It was so hard to narrow it down when I had so many to choose from. This was really one of the best weekends of my life.

2. Great photos Blue_in_AK! Thanks for sharing them with us.
I especially like the picture in front of the Whitehouse with the fist (second to the last picture). It is so expressive.

7. Another thread here on DU was showing how the
freepers think many of the marchers look scary. I was around in the 60s & 70s - what always strikes me when looking at these pictures is the normalness of the people in them. These are main stream american people. They are us.

Someone else posted a photo showing someone on the rooftop that had a Darth Vader silhouette. (eek!)

12. Great pics
Was great meeting you and wish I had had more time to talk. Next one, and I am thinking there will be another one, I am finding a way to stay around for all 3 days or how ever long it goes.

13. You got some great shots
Really good people shots. Remember you were saying that you were not good at people shots? You captured them well.

15. Who's that dork in the top picture
I wish I would have ran into you guys on Saturday. I didn't leave my hostel until almost noon, and it was several miles away.

I had on a DU shirt to make it easy for you guys to spot me.

Where were you guys marching?

17. We were marching all over the place...
InTheFlow was like a snake slithering through the crowd. We were EVERYWHERE!

18. I thought for sure I was going to run into you guys because I walked
against the march from beginning to end. I was everywhere also. Climbing on columns and up on that wall on Pennsylvania Avenue where the people were standing on.

It was so much fun.

16. Did you have to include my name in this dorkette shot?
LOL! It's so much classier when you know I'm doing ballet from atop a dumpster!

of the gathering. I was going to pick a few that showed that quality, but they all do (the large group shots less directly). Each one evokes a sense of the passion for our common good being expressed and an appreciation that the truth is being told by real people.

As for cropping and such, Irfanview is easy to learn and free.

(edit cuz I didn't speel-check)

20. Thank you...
I was following RagingInMiami's advice "Get in their faces." Since it was pretty much impossible to capture the magnitude of the crowd, I took a lot of photos of individuals and of signs. I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out since I usually concentrate on landscapes rather than people.
