So, what happens now with the contest?
Since polls are currently disabled, no one can vote at this point on the "semi-final" rounds until the site traffic eases up. Do we simply hold the voting open until after polls have been restored for the additional time still left, or, if the feature is still unavailable by tomorrow, do we declare that the time period is over, and that's that?

I'd run a poll to help people decide, but they're disabled. ;-)

1. Show of hands?

Do the votes that were cast.... are they gone? Only "good" thing for me today was I remembered why I quit posting in GD. Especially when I'm pissed off.

11. I SHOULD quit posting in GD.
I can't believe the way some DUers are turning on other DUers in there. Now I remember why I spent my first two months as a DUer in the Lounge.

2. Well if it's not one thing, it's another with this contest
I really don't know what to do. If I declare the time period is over, then that will be unfair to those who are not in the lead.

I haven't seen the results since last night so I don't even know where we stand right now. I'm open to suggestions from the participants about this matter.

4. Whatever you decide. Raging...
I hadn't made all my votes yet, but it's up to you. Maybe keep it open for a day or two longer, just to be on the safe side.

6. Oh, it's such a pesky contest to run!
:nopity: You wouldn't have this problem if you didn't win all the time! :P

You know I'm teasing. It's scheduled during an act of God, all rules are subject to change. Whatever you decide is fine, Raging.

8. Last time I checked,
I was not in the lead - and it will not hurt my feelings if you (1) end it now (2) stick with the original plan or (3) use your later suggestion of ending the voting at noon.

I suspect that they polls will be back up at least part of the day tomorrow - since lots of folks are at work there seems to be somewhat less traffic during the day.

9. I think you're screwed Ragin'
I'm having trouble even logging on DU right now.... trying to follow LBN and GD is near impossible. By the time I load a thread and read it... it's already in the archives. Well, not that bad...but close.

I'm stepping away from the internet for a few days before next Tuesday comes and my life is no longer my own. Oh.. and if you are using the "top three" rule for each group.... PLEASE don't include my entry. Give that spot to someone else. I'm officially withdrawing my entry.

Peace all. Bye
:hi:

3. well,
I didn't get the chance to vote yet, and I really wanted to, so I would like to have a little time...but if you decide otherwise, I will understand.

5. It looks like the polls are active again...
...so I guess anyone that hasn't voted yet can now do so.

Maybe we should just call this place "Ohio."

10. Whatever you decide, I will support you.
It really is a toss up.
DU will probably have High Traffic throughout the weekend, so it won't be possible to post a poll to the Lounge or GD.
It would probably be best to just sit on it till things calm down.

Thanks for your work.

12. I think it would make sense to leave them up until
things calm down around here, but I would completely understand if Raging decided to take them down. This couldn't have been predicted. Maybe we can "redo" the reflections theme down the road and just scrap August's contest.

13. Or August's contest becomes September's contest.
That would be just as valid.

15. Good idea.
A month goes by so fast anyway,

I say let it go for August and votes carry over into September.

16. Certainly. We should keep in mind that it's CASUAL ...
... and flexible. I think folks here are showing that quite well in adapting and acting according to changing circumstances. The frequency of the contests can and should vary according to the participants' drive and interest in having them. It's not like we're some vast population where such things even out statistically. We are a smaller community with some common interests that'll affect our zeal over the course of a year.

Discussion and collaboration is good ... and adapting to contemporaneous events shows we're actually involved in national life to the degree our individual circumstances permit. It only seems to make sense to thnk in terms of this being the "Back to School" contest (Reflections) and the next one might be "Fall" or "Spirit of New Orleans" or "Season of Ghosts & Goblins" or whatever ... something that reflects our mutual seasonal changes in focus.

I rather like the way folks conduct themselves here ... it shows mutual respect and a decent level of integrity. That ain't bad, guys. Not at all.

14. I'm going to leave the polls up until next week.
If the polls are working on Monday, then I will leave it up until later that day or night. Then I will post the final round on Tuesday.

If the polls are still not working next week, then I will just wait until they do work. I have no problem with waiting.

I know you guys put a lot of time and effort into this contest so there is no way I will just scrap the contest.
