Photo Series: Life in the USSR.
Hi all,

I've recently posted Part One of a photo series, Life in the USSR, on my account at Flickr.

As most of you probably (don't) know, my wife was born and raised in Kiev, USSR. So yeah, these are basically family snapshots. As I say on each photo...

There is nothing too profound here, most if not all are family snapshots, the same type of family snapshots taken in towns large and small around the world. I'll present whatever information I can find out about each photo.

Some photos are in not so good shape. I have attempted to fix them up wherever possible.

If you're interested, go here... http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattsh/

Then click on page 2 on the bottom to go to the next page.

I don't think you can leave comment at Flickr unless you have a Flickr account. But feel free to comment here.

1. Very interesting
You have some very good photos there. I'll come back later and look some more. I love photos depicting life in other places. Everything is the same, with subtle differences.

2. Very good. My great uncle and grandfather were schooled
in Russia. My family might have moved to the region in the 1600's. So at various times they could have been Russia, Polish, German, Lithuanian, or Prussian.

3. I looked through several pages.
Great documentation! Also those first three are absolutely stunning photos regardless of where they were taken. :hi:

6. I see new ones are being added.
I still love these three the most, though: Kiev's Venice Beach (HDR), Summer Sunset (HDR), and Thunderhead (HDR). I know we shun this word here in the group but I do find stunning describes them best. Very breath-taking shots. :hi:

9. Well, HDR is like any new technology...
The people who first embrace the technology are those who don't know what to do with it.

Then a few people come along and do it correctly, then a few more people learn from them, and so on, and so on...

I'm still working it out, though.

7. Matt- this is a wonderful world of sharing
and I'm so glad you did that.
I poke around and find thing I like and things I love and all of it stretches my imagination.
Your photos as a whole have intrigued and stimulated my senses in the past. I have bookmarked this to visit again other times.

Thank you!
