2. The green pattern attracted me. I had just photographed
a small butterfly when I turned and saw it. The butterfly picture wasn't good, but the Cicada worked.

5. Love the detail
And I also love the way the tones are somewhat muted without losing any of its eye-catching quality. (Don't know if that makes any sense but it's getting late and my mind may be in the first stages of shutdown.)

6. It makes sense. Thanks. BTW, that is at 50% zoom.
There's still good detail at 100% zoom. The Canon G10 is very good in the great outdoors.

7. Very pretty
I remember hearing them in the trees back east. Noisy little buggers. Don't recall them being such pretty colours though.

Taste good.

9. You can eat them?
I've had teriyaki grasshoppers and they were surprisingly tasty. Cicadas would probably be a good protein source for the non-squeamish.

10. They are. We are squeamish about eating "bugs", but we
eat shrimp, oysters, scallops, crabs, and lobsters.

11. Yeh, it's weird
I've eaten a few types of insects. I don't like eating meat, but insects don't taste worse than any other animal. Bugs of the sea taste worse if you ask me.

16. That's good. You got good detail on the critter
without the white background getting totally washed out. I had a cloudy day and a neutral background. It would have been difficult to fail. Yours is a much tougher shot to pull off.

There's a lot of info on Cicada on the web.

20. Impressive pic.
I have seen a few of the ones around here, usually near the porch light at night, where the cats have dragged them. Surprisingly BIG
things.
I need a better camera. Will look up the Canon you recommended.

25. I hear cicadas all year long due to Tinnitus. Maybe carrying
around a bit of a Cicada in me has brought me good fortune throughout my life. I'm even being paid $123 a month for that cicada in my head.
