Steampunkery (Barclay House)
I spent another enjoyable day celebrating all things steampunk at a historical house/museum. There were lessons on etiquette, live music, and the good company of like-minded friends.

Croquet on the front lawn:

Victorian Boxing (Apparently, kicking your opponent in the kneecaps is acceptable and standard procedure):

Lucy Conquered Man:

Juggling Lessons:

Stilt-walker:

Marketplace:

Photos "aged" in GIMP (old photo script-fu).

2. It is fun
Steampunk is a subgenre that is gaining momentum right now. It combines Victoriana, Goth-Lolita fashions, and a love of old-style technology, gadgets, and arts/crafts. Here's a link to my first post, with more explanation http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Tindalos/121

8. That's a good one too.
I've only watched part of the remake, and I think I prefer the older movie. Loved the book.

10. I've never seen Brazil
It's been on my to-watch list for ages, but I've never gotten around to it yet. I've read 1984 several times, and it's probably due for another read. The rats make me cringe every time.

4. Steampunk is gaining momentum
If you search online, you might find a group near you. There are also online communities on facebook, etc. If you're ever out this way, let me know and I'll organize a event for your visit. We've talked about doing a tour of the city, with everyone dressed up and pretending to be time travelers or visitors from an alternate steampunk universe. Can you imagine the looks we'd get?

Here's a couple of sites that might interest you

And I highly recommend watching the short film The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello:

Very awesome and dystopian. I just recommended it in a post above. Have you seen the online series Riese? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4LXO3d9OHY&feature=related . The second episode is coming out soon and it looks amazing. I talked to one the makers on the weekend. They were really nice and gave me a t-shirt and a copy of Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan, which I can't wait to read.

Edit: Oops, forgot the link for the episode 2 trailer. http://riesetheseries.com/blog/
