I Spy A Heron

I took this shot primarily for the heron but after I looked at it on the computer, I think the stuff in the corners adds just as much to the shot as the heron itself. Thoughts on this? Do the corners distract too much (especially the lower right)?

1. I thought the same at first
and then I took liberties with your picture and played with it... I think the shot is better cropped at the bottom. Maybe not quite as much as this but...

2. Right idea.
I would probably not crop as much off the bottom (keep the whole hole in the middle).

On the right, I would keep the water but lose the ship.

6. I didn't even notice the corners,

but now that you mention them... I like them! They add depth, action, texture and story to the shot. And I *love* the composition with the main subject!

7. This is a really cool photo
I love taking photos of things through things like holes in trees, and I love photos of herons. The combo??? Wow.

I like the corners too. Is that a ship of some type? It would have been nice if you had happened to cut it off, but still it may add a bit to the photo. But honestly, there is not much that needed to be added to the photo.
