5. It is doing almost as well as I hoped it would,
it is one of my very favorites, for what that praise is worth.

And thank you for acknowledging my hard work, because, honestly, to me it is very hard.
So far I've only done it twice now, each time I won the May contest, and then hosted June.

Watch me not enter in May next year.

:)

6. Good luck to everyone!
Some great shots in the running.

Mira, I'm just wondering if there was a reason for changing the order of the shots? Aren't they usually posted in the order of submission or have I just been assuming that's the way it's done?

Thanx for taking the time to run another one. :hi:

8. To answer your question:
Recently the entries were run in the order they arrived, but it is not as a rule the way it is done.
It's been up to the host/hostess.
Many chose a program called random sequence generator to determine the order of presenting the entries.

I opted for it in order to be free of any second guessing by others about why I would choose the order the way I did.

One types in how many pieces (30), and how many parts (3)
The program then tells you the numbers of the pieces in each part.

I have to number the photos 1-30
The program tells me which numbers go into the three threads, and I am completely off the hook for anyone saying why did you put this one next to that one.....

I liked that the random put a bunch of the bird photos together, I thought it funny.
And I laughed at that the random put the one that was submitted first (the arches) in the last position.

I hope that answers your query.
I like how you are ever vigilant.

And about your thanking me for running another one:
Well, that's what I get for winning.

11. I wondered about placement too
because there are a couple photos that are VERY good and I think mine is placed amongst them. Therefore I'm not looking for my photo to advance, but no matter. It's the taking of the pictures and picking one for the entry that is the most fun for me........ :toast:

12. I know how you feel.
Many times I have thought that the photos surrounding mine influenced the votes I did/or did not get.
Yet, look at thread 2 right now and see the fighting going on in there.
Exciting.

Ultimately the 4 highest vote getters after the top two in each thread are the soldiers supporting the battle, yet I have been consistently amazed at how preferences can change in the finalists round of voting.
My goal each time is to make it into the final round, then I consider my work done.

It's a really strong field, and a fun category, I think.

9. Up to the host...
Edited on Sat Jun-19-10 10:50 PM by HappyCynic
As I understand it, the order is entirely up to the host. Some do it in order of submission, others may move some so there isn't a clump of similar photos in a single thread, others go purely random. I like the switching up the order - it eliminates some of the worries about entering. You never know whose photos your entry will be next to so it's no use delaying your entry.

Edited to remove comment about not being sure what method Mira chose, as she noted it above.

7. Seems like everyone who has hosted has commented
on all the hard work.

There are so many amazing and very visually pleasing pics in this round.

10. You are a sweety and I am a whiner.
Til you do it, don't knock the whining
(maybe you have done it already, and I don't know)

I whined at the end of posting the prelims. I am so not a pro like many of the others to whom this may be easy, at least easy enough not to whine.

But even some of those have admitted that the day of posting the prelims is a day they would not like to remember.

Today, what POed me, is that I forgot as I was inserting links to each other, after posting the individual threads I kept clicking on "edit", adding and changing stuff, and then forgetting to click on: renew/repost, whatever.

So I kept running across the stuff I had just done not being recognized, in three threads.

I deserved to whine after such idiocy.

Basically, I need to win more often, then I'll get really good at the running of contests.

Last year, not a single person said thank you, or good job, which probably means I blew it.
I have one down so far this year.
Like I said, practice will help...........

13. oooh don't think I was knocking your whining!!!!
I am serious when I say that I almost understand all the hard work because so many have acknoweldged that. Never having been a winner, I can't grasp the full extent of hosting a 'show'. You go ahead honey, and explain away the whine, but it's completely understandable and frankly, you did a wonderful seamless job...regardless of the background flubs. Reminds me of the last community play my kids did. The audience saw something so different than what was happening during relearsals and between scenes! In that case the audience was comparing kids hard work and ability to perfom vs. total chaos!

15. I'm off to close the threads now.
I'll put up the Finals on Thursday, so we have weekday and weekend days for voting.

Great work everybody, and good luck to the Finalists, where it all starts again and things can change on a dime!

16. Terrific job
with the Prelims. That's always the hardest part. It force me to learn how to do the HTML stuff to make things in italics or in bold. Never did have much luck with the grayscale boxes though.

17. Thank you, dear Mz Pip!
I feel (I know) that now I'm all but home free and in the territory of smooth sailing.

Finally I learned:

type:

and into the space in the middle, between the brackets, insert the text you want in the gray box.

Or

put the first part in front of your text, and the last, the insertion part, behind it.

That'll do it. Check it with preview, and if the gray box is not there, check your spacing and typing.

18. I am cracking up, the gray box in my post
illustrates how hard it all is to folks who are not pre-disposed to this being easy.
I got a beautiful empty gray box, because I had left the space for "text" empty.

Just click on the blue lettered HTML lookup table next to the Smilies lookup table that accompanies each post on the top.

Then go to the instructions for:
.....etc. and it WILL work

That is a cute little gray box. (with you, not at you!)

I think I may have screwed up the spacing.

20. The plot thickened again
I'm wide eyed now, not laughing. It stripped out any reference to how to do it. This time I only typed HALF of it, thinking that would remain and not turn into HALF a gray box.

I give up.
It's easy, really, as all these dastardly things that puzzle me so end up being..............
