1. Of course I don't know the answer
but I photographed this one coming out of huge hole in a mammoth cactus. In Phoenix. At 110 degrees.
And it had cactus slime in its beak. I had to lie in wait for him, after I had seen him go in.

Now I see he made it all the way to Texas?

5. There's going to be some small variation within a species.

I can see white and yellow on both bird shoulders. You can't see the yellow as well on the OP picture.

I use the three point method to confirm. On the two birds I see a similar bill, similar coloration, similar build.

7. Another thing that helps with the ID is range. The bird was
sighted well within its range.

That's a handsome bird.
