Time to talk about the 2011 calendar
With all of the discussion about contests, I thought I would change the subject briefly and talk about the 2011 calendar. First I want to check and see if there is still interest in doing it again. Let me know.

Secondly, I want to warn you all that, since I'm claiming dictator status over this as the Chief Herder of Cats (), I'm going to make some changes to the selection format this year. Mostly because of very time consuming things out of my control (i.e. grad school, friend's getting married, etc.) I'm going to dramatically reduce the number of entries per person - probably to 3 or 4. This means you are going to have to be much more selective about what you submit. Sorry in advance, I just don't have the time to deal with the volume of the past years, which has generally been well more than 100 photos to go through, and we've seen a steady increase in the number of people submitting, so it's gotten a little unwieldy.

That's really the only big change. Everything else should stay about the same.

Also, since I've liked the theme approach of the past couple of years, I'd like to do it again. Because in the past our calendars have been mostly nature themed, I'm leaning towards switching it up a little and making it Architecture. Please remember that while architecture can mean "city" it does not have to, and there are many interesting ideas in non-city areas.

My projected timeline, although subject to change is:
Submissions the last two weeks of June
Selection polls during the middle of July
Final confirmation of winners and submission of winning photos to Skinner in early to mid August

I think that's basically everything. Let me know if you have any ideas, contributions, complaints, etc.

3. I have a question but not about content or theme
rather; does DU benefit at all from sales of said calendar? It seems like no one was sure the last time I asked....

4. Hi Dyedinthewoolliberal
:hi:

The intent has always been that this be a fundraiser for DU, particularly as a thank you for allowing us to use this space for our photographs. I believe that the first couple of years did not raise much if any money for DU, but, if I recall correctly, there was a small markup from the Zazzle price for last year's calendar, so probably did make a little money off of it, although I haven't talked to Skinner about it directly. The calendar submission rules explicitly state that the use of photographs in the calendar is for fundraising purposes.

Sorry, I know that isn't a real helpful answer, but it's the best I can do at the moment.

8. Hello back at ya blueraven 95!
:)
Maybe we need to ask Skinner that question. Someone has to have set up the account. I'd be interested in buying one just as a way to support DU. Of course if one of my pics was in it then it'd be a different story :bounce:

6. Sounds good and gives some time
for people to shoot. More so once you put on that dictator hat and start the thread with the sizes, orientation and rules for any newbies and us forgetful people. :hide:

9. Thanks for the heads up
Architecture sounds like an excellent theme and no arguments from me on limiting the number of entries to make it more manageable.
