A bit unkempt in Charleston, S.C. ...
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 06:42 PM by Adsos Letter
...but sitting at a sidewalk table on a warm, spring evening sure felt good! (after 13 hours of driving...) :D

On edit: I have never claimed either personal beauty, nor sartorial splendor...

1. A tall cold one looks pretty good
the shirt, not so much

Just the kind of guy I'd drink a beer (or 3 or 4) with

2. YOU DON'T LIKE MY SHIRT?!.....
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 08:08 PM by Adsos Letter
...surely you are referring to the fact that it is rumpled, and not the tasteful floral design...

Actually, my diabetes restricts me to indulgence in the produce of the brewmaster's art only on occasion, and I have smoked, uh...tobacco...only rarely since giving it up 30 years ago.

Still, it was an absolute physical/mental/emotional pleasure to partake of both on that glorious late afternoon in the Historic Downtown area of Charleston, while my girls were off shopping/siteseeing. :D

And I am certain it would be a pleasure to hoist a brew with you at any time.

Too bad it isn't in color, though. You look very relaxed and happy. :)

4. I love how we form 'pictures' of those we become familiar with on zee net that
Edited on Sat Apr-24-10 12:55 AM by ConsAreLiars
may or may not be accurate, but that are totally devoid of any imagery, Maybe a few hints - age, gender, maybe ethnicity - but usually no portrait. Probably never even think about it.

Your self-portrait looks even more like what I've created as 'you' than I would have ever imagined or thought possible or probable.

Asked to pick Adsos Letter out of a crowd, I couldn't have guessed, but asked to pick someone to trade stories with, that would be the guy.

(edit to add: Nice post-processing. Better than either full color or B/W.

5. Thanks, ConsAreLiars! I went with that particular post-processing
because me in B&W is disturbing enough; me in full color is an unwarranted assault on all that is good and just in the world...not to mention the senses. :D

I've often thought it would be interesting to sit down with people from the photo group, and just chat. You, and so many others here, just seem like such down-to-earth people. I'm sure lots of good stories would make the rounds.

Plus, not just faces, but voices...the difference between the spoken and the written voice would be interesting.

On an unrelated matter: I owe you an apology. I asked in a post about your son and his photography; you answered in a very nice post, including a photo he took. I don't know what I was doing at the time you posted; I saw the post, but didn't respond, and I feel bad about that. Please let me take this opportunity to apologize to you.

6. No offense ever felt or the non-reply noted (this time) but a good excuse
Edited on Sat Apr-24-10 04:18 AM by ConsAreLiars
to just say how fortunate I am to have offspring (as are you) who go way beyond any reality-based expectations in directions we would not have even imagined. One, a very high-powered achiever who got fellowshipped through Swarthmore and UC-Berkeley PhD programs (doing TG ID at the same time) and another, a HS dropout who eventually got a GED and then this and that and then/now an artist-in-residence gig at a resort on the San Juan Islands.

Gave him a hint or two (don't center, watch the BG) and he left me in the dust. Not just remarkable compositions, but a closeness to the living natural world that makes these images possible, and he has, even when a drop-out, began learning everything about plant names. Latin and common, and traditional uses. See http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonnyhayseed/

Here's a small case in point:

He names the pic by its common name: White Fawn Lily, but captioned it with the Latin name - Erythronium oregonu

(edit one typo and add a bit)

10. An elegant photo. Your son has an obvious eye for elegant simplicity.
And I agree with you about the kids; watching them make their way through life has been one of the great pleasures of mine...not without its moments of pain; but still, a very gratifying, and humbling, experience. :toast:

8. Wrong! Sartorial splendor personified!
I got a shirt yesterday in Little India for 5 bucks that will get a post of its own here soon. Prepare to be dazzled...
