On Sunday, after taking in the Chinese New Year parade, Tindalos and I stumbled across this community garden. They had converted it into a community art gallery. The art will only be present for the duration of the Olympics, which is a bit of a shame but understandable given that its main purpose as a community garden is more practical. The garden isn't very large (the first image shows about 3/4 of its width and most of its length) but they managed to pack a lot into it.
Here's a shot of the garden in its near entirety. DTES stands for DownTown East Side (for more info on this area of town, you can wiki DTES).
Tired of garden gnomes? How about a flower pot geisha?
The art is a work in progress - one of the artists was working on lettering a sign on the wall while another artist was working on a painting.
And here's the artist working on a painting... Well, at the time of the photograph, she was being interrupted by someone else who had wandered in.
Here's a painting that was at the back that's looking pretty good but doesn't appear to be finished.
Here's an easel whose functionality as an easel is questionable.
And a message to those entering and exiting the garden.
