Snowpocalypse seen from space

posted: 07 February 2010

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Terra satellite captured this true-color image on February 7, 2010, showing part of the region affected by heavy snowfall. Snow blankets the area hundreds of kilometers inland from the Atlantic coastline. Along the latitude of New York City, however, snow cover thins considerably. Credit: NASA

The results of the weekend storm that buried many Eastern U.S. locations in 2 feet or more of snow stands out starkly in a new satellite image.

The image from space reveals how the storm swept through Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia but largely spared New York City. The landscape is largely snow-free just north of Manhattan.

Nicknamed "snowpocalypse" and "snowmageddon," the blizzard dumped a record-breaking 32 inches at Dulles International Airport in the nation's capital, according to news reports.

1. And there I am
right between the Susquehanna and the Octorara Rivers (MD side of the state line). It is much prettier from ground level though. We stayed in and enjoyed it from warmth today after digging out last night.

4. I'm in Cecil County....
Edited on Mon Feb-08-10 02:56 PM by CC
near Rising Sun, Conowingo and PA. The other red side of Maryland.

About right where the A is. Unless they worked on the dam, were stationed at Bainbridge or are in Harford County (east side) seems no one knows Cecil County is here. Actually it is getting a bit better, they do show the dam when it floods Port Deposit on the news now.

6. Well if you are going 95 you cross
the Susquehanna right before paying the toll. You wouldn't go across the Octorara because it goes into the Susquehanna between the dam and I-95.
Pretty up here but full of idiots repukes.

7. I'm glad...
I'm glad I'm on the other coast. I hope all who are stuck in that sea of white ride it out safely. The one bright spot, I guess, is all the fantastic pictures.
