Bloedel Conservatory - Part 1 - The dome
On the weekend, I went to the Bloedel Conservatory. Within a few months, it may be shut down for good. The roof needs major repairs ($1-2 million) and they want to shut it down instead of repairing it in order to cover a budget shortfall. There's the start of a movement to keep it open past March 1. Hopefully, it'll stay open. Anyways, here are a few shots of the dome from the inside and outside. And a twilight shot (taken on the grounds outside).

First up, a fairly utilitarian shot so you can get an idea of the size and roof structure.

Next up, a couple close-ups of the dome structure.

A shot from inside the dome, looking toward the apex.

And here's the twilight shot.

1. Thanks!
I had never heard of the place but after looking at your pics, I definitely think it deserves a strong effort to conserve the conservatory. Ohhh, and those bird pictures! Surely it won't happen. In any case, be sure to keep going back.

2. Definitely worth saving
It's definitely worth saving but the cost of saving to visitor ratio isn't great so its future is definitely up in the air. I'll definitely be back there before its expected closing date of March 1.
As you can tell from the first shots, it was a cloudy day. On a sunny day, the lighting should be much better and I should be able to get much better shots.
