1. I was thinking about it,
but it's kind of hazing up (ice fog). Also it's below zero.

4. Houses up here are built to withstand the cold.
Most houses have hot-water baseboard heat, which seems to be very efficient here, and not terribly expensive. We very seldom have a chill in the house, and when we do, we just build a fire in the fireplace.

Needless to say, we don't spend much time outside, though. Cars have block heaters and need to be plugged in when it's this cold. Even so, they still need to idle for 8-10 minutes before driving.

We just learn to live with it. :)

3. I might, but I doubt it. Whenever anything astronomically significant happens
in this area, there's always clouds and fog.

6. Cloud cover and seeing forecasts for North America from Environment Canada..
A nice resource for anyone into astronomy.
