I'm kind of in the mood to see some. :hi:

Oh, and the flu slowed me up for a week, but emails to calender winners will go out hopefully by this weekend.

31. It sure is...
This is an extremely rural area, and most people got around by horse or donkey as opposed to cars (on account that the streets are too narrow).

19. It's fascinating. The heavy crosses just seem so....well....heavy. It feels very eery.

32. The day I was there was and wasn't
It was bright and sunny, so it couldn't be too eery. But the fact that you couldn't read most of the crosses, due to age, really says something.

That, and then inside the church there were lots of graves in the floor. That was really odd.

21. It's a fountain at a local mall.
Here's the mall. The top floor is a bookstore, and about half of the bottom floor is the children's section.

6. The Arctic Ocean coast line.
Front window view from a cabin built by the late Noah Itta (whose son Edward Itta is the current mayor of the North Slope Borough). It is located on the Arctic Ocean coast about 18 miles southwest of Barrow Alaska.

29. Another view, from the outside.
I left the color in this image because it does lose something without it. That is the Arctic Ocean on the left side. There is a lagoon, newly frozen over, between the camera and the cabin. That is a meat drying rack up on the tundra.

Of course, now you can all see exactly why everyone here on the North Slope of Alaska washes clothes in Tide.

(It's so cold out tide.)

36. True, but the effects are interesting...
It is both beautiful and inhospitable.

That makes for a very adventurous place to live, and it is indeed an all day adventure every day! But it's also a place where a single human cannot survive alone. It requires community. People here work together. Everyone, even your worst enemy, is your neighbor.

It's like Noah's cabin... no lock, a bit of food, everything it takes to stay alive and comfortable for 3-4 days, and there is a paper plate hung up on the wall inside with a message written on it, something to the effect of "Welcome -- enjoy our cabin, please keep it clean. The Itta Family".
