1. Working on it while stuck out here in CA.
I was glad you gave us the extra time, since as long as I'm here, I'm away from my computer.

2. Getting the images is the easy part, deciding is the hard part. I will probably
do what I usually do: pick what I like, then move on unconcerned about outcomes.

4. I think I have found my Wabi Sabi
It's just one item...I wandered around the neighborhood, took pics and promptly turnd arund and deleted them from the camera....and finally found the "one thing that calls to me" in my own back yard lol. So now, I'm waiting for the sun to come out and give me some decent shadows. It was overcast the day I found it and raining ever since. This will be my first competition and I'm all tingly with anticipation lol.

Are there rules for sizes etc? Any other rules a newbie should know about?

5. Rules in a nutshell
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 02:05 PM by HappyCynic
The rules for entries (at least in terms of sizes) in a nutshell are:
- longest side is 800 pixels or less
- file size is 200 KB or less

Full rules are posted with the submissions thread. You can check out the submissions thread for September (or any previous month) for reference. September submissions thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=280&topic_id=60059&mesg_id=60059.

6. I remember how it feels. It's such a thrill, and to me, it has
not diminished. The most fun is the picture search, through files or wandering the streets, mostly a bit of both.
The least fun, and the most un-nerving is the decision what to chose, even in your case, which shot of the same scenario to chose.
Alfredo has a good point when he said once: Simply chose what YOU like, and it will take care of itself.

But, as one wise man said:
your mind, once stretched, will never go back to it's original dimension.

Even though you already take wonderful photographs, just hanging out here and looking and listening you will grow and improve.
I'm glad you are here, and good luck. Contests are exciting, especially if you are in it.
:)

8. Sometimes...
Sometimes I like to think of the contests as a springboard - you know a way to just go out and shoot, to see what I can find. I might not actually enter any photo but its a good way to get ideas and inspiration and just maybe improve or change my thinking on creating better images.
