Food photo fail
How not to do it:
www.redbarnfood.com

The photos I'm mainly talking about are in the Flash animation on the homepage, but the Food Gallery may be just as tasteless.

1. Ugh
I took a look at the photos and it's definitely a fail. I can't really decide which is the worst - the salad (?) with the chicken (I think) and tomato, the lobster with the cream sauce, or the prawns. The prawns don't look like they're the right colour (not much in their series of photos does but the prawns seem to be the worst in that regard). The lobster looks like someone hurled on it. But maybe the worst is the salad - it looks slimy and gross, the tomato seems to be trying to escape, and they appear to be trying to hide the meat, leaving me wondering how bad the rest of the meat looks. I didn't check out the food gallery - I don't think I'd be able to stomach it (excuse the pun).

2. The Hudson Valley is not known
for fine touches in cuisine or photography.

3. Astoundingly bad photographs. Thanks for posting!
And I hope you cross-post this to the Cooking & Baking Group. I'm sure some of the reactions there would be priceless.

4. Think barn...
I'm also wondering why they felt the need to do such a close up view on the food. I think a lot if it might not have been nearly as bad if they had pulled back... Might not have been enough to salvage it but I'm pretty sure it would have helped.
Then there's the name. Y'know, when I get hungry, I'm sure the first thing I would think of is a barn...

10. Right, no kidding. :)
I found the site because I was researching "red barn" logos for a new client who is starting a non-food related business, "Red Barn ...". There's something about the phrase that is comfortable and attractive to people, but it's used in some rather inappropriate contexts. Human food being one of the worst.

5. Well, I'm going to be asked to take some shots...
of fruits and veggies for a joint venture of a local diner and an organic grower in NYS, so maybe someday I'll be asked to improve those shots. I haven't done any real cooked food photography yet but I think I could improve on those even now.

It makes no sense.

9. That's just horrible.
I'm suddenly not hungry.

We're heading to the Fair tomorrow. Maybe I can get some photos of deep-fried Twinkies to get everybody's gastric juices flowing.
