Seven weeks old now. The time really flies.

5. Did I mention I just had a grand niece born, 2 weeks ago. A little late, it took

a caesarian her mother's body did not want to let go of the baby, and she looks like the brother I lost too early in Nov. of last year?

I cannot believe Aiman is 7 weeks, I was not kidding about "only yesterday".
My sister lives in LA, I know about Venice Beach, you had a ball waiting, look at the Birdman picture and it's reception :)

Didn't you post a picture somewhere? I'm looking back through the photo group posts and don't see it -- maybe it was in the lounge or GD?

About Venice Beach, it was "picture-of-a-stranger" paradise. Each person I came upon was "stranger" than the last. :rofl: I really did like the way this guy looked especially, though, and it appears that other people do, too. But I think this contest will go to "A Stranger's Touch." That's a very moving photograph.

7. Here it is. She is a hunk of joy. I hope I get to see her early enough to start a bond,

but then, even so, I'll always be the aunt in the US far away.

In the meantime, if you read the verbiage in the post, I learned that the government additionally sends a midwife trained person to daily check on the new mother and husband at home for 2 months, to train them and help them get used to the change in the family status.

I choke when I think of all we are missing in that regard.
I choke, so I don't throw up.

And I like that post, though I disagree with you on one thing.

We are not a civilized nation. We've lost all pretense to the moniker. It's taken me years and years to come to this realization as an expatriate, but I'm actually ecstatic that I don't live back home anymore. I think most Americans, if they has a taste of life abroad, even in Canada - which sure ain't the socialist paradise some people think it is - would realize that essentially America is a half-century behind the curve now.

I say this with no smugness at all. It actually makes me furious and miserable. But I believe it's the truth.
