Bluebird chicks (second brood)
Edited on Sun May-17-09 09:12 AM by Maestro
My eastern bluebirds are on their second brood now. I missed the little ones in the first one although the juveniles are with mom and dad now. In fact, they helping to feed to the new ones.

Eggs last week

Feed me

Bad hair day

Taking a rest on future sibling

Mom is never far away (taken during a brief moment of sun believe it or not.)

Budding avian photographer looking at eggs. Notice the pink point & shoot. That is so my Gabi.

1. These are fantastic!!
Especially Gabbie, but other than that, taking a rest on a future sibling. My, my, my!! That is too wonderful that you have bluebirds in your yard. With a second brood no less.

Amazing pictures.

2. These are a wonderful and humorous photo tale - the bird babies are
fabulous, so clear, and so funny. Feed me Seymour, feed me all day long. (now I can't get the music from little shop of horrors out of my head).
The photo of Gabi is great, too. Reminds me of Mth44's little girl with the camera in clarity and beauty.
Gabi, is a German diminutive for Gabriele. Have not heard or seen that in a long time.
Thanks for this picture essay.

3. Bad hair day!

That's fascinating that the first brood is helping with the second. Makes one liken them to the Duggers.

5. And I'm right on your heels. I love the humor, and it still makes me laugh.
I also come back for the look on Gabi's face.

8. The season is still young
although there may be other birds that more dominant that are keeping the bluebirds away.

10. My experience has been that if I don't get a pair by April, I won't get one all year
I'm sure it's not unheard of to get one in my area later, I just never have.

I do keep the house sparrows from nesting in my bluebird house and I checked it every week or two from January on.

11. Are you near a pasture, water source?
Besides the house sparrows and starlings getting in the way, I know that the bluebirds like to be near an open area such as a pasture and of course have a water source. You may consider just moving the box. Sometimes just doing that will encourage a pair to take up residence. Good luck.

12. Love the fro on the bird
That huge hair on such a tiny bird cracks me up. That is some seriously bad bed-head.
