1. Yellow is good!
If I may, with a little extra post processing, this shot really pops with that dark background.

Bumped up the gamma/levels to 1.2
Increased the brightness/contrast to 6/4
Sharpened via FocusMagic (3 pixels)

3. In this case it was Photoshop CS3.
Corel's Paint Shop Pro will also get you to almost the same place for noticeably less money.

The editing capabilities of Adobe's Light Room has come up quite a ways to the point that it can do most of what most people need most of the time, so I have been told by lots of folks; if you are looking for a single program to do Digital Asset Management and a little editing.
