Grand opening.
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 05:02 PM by Blue_In_AK
I attended the grand opening this morning of Anchorage's new Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center, a beautiful new building that I really couldn't do justice to even with my ultra-wide angle lens, but here are a few shots. Mayor Mark Begich is pretty pleased -- on time and on budget, and with no raised property taxes. Woo-hoo.

It has a heated outside deck on two sides of the third floor with beautiful views of the city and mountains

Sea critters

The convention center is named for the Dena'ina Athabascans, the first people of this region of the state. A Native artist created this wonderful stained glass depicting the lifestyle. It's really a gorgeous piece of work.

Remember us when you book your conventions.

3. Love the stained glass.

The rest ain't so bad either. The fish picture is really neat looking too. I love stained glass. One day I will learn how to do it myself.
Though couldn't even opening this get your Governor back instead of her fouling the air in my neck of the woods? She was just north of me today riling up the rednecks. sigh Maybe that was why some guy had the nerve to call my mom a communist when she was getting gas. He tried hard to convince her Obama would be dangerous for the country. I think he was sorry he picked on an old lady by the time she was done with him.

4. I'm sorry about Sarah...
I don't know what's happened to her down there. Honestly, she never acted like that here, at least not in public. I think all this divisiveness is something Karl Rove must have taught her. We don't like "new Sarah." She's going to be in a lot of trouble when she comes back here.

5. Hate to say this but I
think she just hid it well. I'm kind of hoping when she runs back to AK with her tail tuck between her legs you guys can do a recall of something and send her home in shame. She gives women a bad name. Course seems repukes can never just fade away.

She was in Lancaster so at least we know why the repukes around here thought they could save us from ourselves. I am too close to a battleground state unless Obama shows up in Lancaster and I get to go.

6. Maybe you're right...
It's just not something we saw. I've been very disappointed in her, to say the least.

7. Wow! That's impressive, especially the stained glass.
I assume this is not by the same architect who designed the Wasilla sports complex...;)
