Almost like trick photography! My initial reaction to the 2nd shot was to wonder who dumped a brazillion tons of rock in the ocean around that light house!
(yes, just on the first cup of coffee)

Sorry jhain, I didn't see your reply. Thanks for the compliment! The lighthouse is in Crescent City, California, up close to the Oregon border.

If you Google it under images you will see that it has been photographed about 800,000,000 times... :D

6. Crescent City is great! Nice little places to eat, beaches to walk on...
...cozy places to stay (or camp, it you're into it). Stop at Ft. Ross on the way! Here is a link to the Crescent City Lighthouse:

and here is one to Ft. Ross: http://www.fortrossstatepark.org/

The possibilities for weekend trips in any direction out of The City are just about endless. :hi:

3. How long is it cut off from the beach?
Does anyone live there? Cool shots.

5. Thanks Maestro! The lighthouse keeper lives there...I think...
but nobody else, that I am aware of. The island is very small; I'll see if I can pull up some other shots and make 'em presentable.

The period of isolation is dependent on the tides: tide in = isolated, tide out = accessible.

Here is a link to a website about it: http://www.us-lighthouses.com/displaypage.php?LightID=19

7. Thanks for the link.
I visited my first lighthouse down in Port Isabel near South Padre Island. It was also built in the 1800s and closed by the turn of the century.
