1. I saw your thread there and expected to see
those colorful things on a string. Had a good laugh as I enjoyed your very nice kite photos.

2. Thanks NV Whino
Those nesting kites have become somewhat invisible lately. I suspect that they are spending more time on eggs. Then as July rolls around activity will pick up again.

3. We had a pair of osprey nesting on top of a PG&E pole around here.
Two years ago a great blue heron built a nest on top of the pole. PG&E knocked it down. But, they built a platform above the pole. The platform stayed empty for two years. Last fall (go figure--planning ahead, I guess) an egret started placing sticks up there. The egret, for some reason, lost interest, but the osprey thought it was a fine nest and moved in this spring. They were very shy and I never got a good shot of them. Not to mention my meager 200 mm doesn't quite do it for bird shots. My client, however, with his new D300 and 400 mm lens, got a great shot of one of the birds.

I have to say that is the most disreputable nest I've ever seen. But I suppose if you have a lake-front location, even a shack is a castle to the osprey.
