1. Very nice!
In both cases the background complements the flower image, while providing a little context, instead of distracting from it. That is the toughest part to accomplish. I like the first one especially since the complementary colors (orangish vs. blueish) make the flower stand out very strongly.

4. The only "bleeding" out there was you
from your description and my personal experiences with Alaskan mozzies.

Hope the welts and bruises go away soon.

Also I like the first pic quite a bit. It has sunset colors. Very sharp and background is awesome. Very very nice.

I like the line of flowers in the 2nd photo because it shows nature is often orderly, and I like the pinks because they are warm. A row of hearts, what a bonus!

I was going to say blow the 2nd one down for sharper focus but unless you have it very big and can blow that size down, it won't help on that pic.

here's an example of a pic I blew down (yeah I know the term is shrank but in my office we always said blow down). This pic was very blury and got way better by decreasing the size.

I can't find the original pic at the moment and have to take off in my car, trust me the before was super blurry and was a throw away pic because it was so blurry.

7. The bleeding hearts are blurry
because it was late in the afternoon (well, after 9:00 p.m. really -- still afternoon here), and with the setting to let in more light, my hand was a little jiggly. I probably should have had the tripod set up, but I didn't feel like messing with it since the mosquitoes were so bad. I'm waiting for a good sunny day to take my "real" flower pictures for the June contest, and then I'll be bringing out tripods, lenses, all the ammo. These were just for fun.

8. but it's still a great picture.
It could be sharpened but it doesn't have to be.

And you have guts for braving those mosquitoes for photographs. Little blood suckers.
