Squirrels
I just came across this over at Webshots. Personally, these furry fiends are the bane of my existence. However, these are some great photos!

1. I just don't get what people have against squirrels.
:)

I had a housemate once who hated them. She had me trap them and transport them to other areas. Then one morning after taking one away, I came back and that afternoon its mate was in the tree above where it had been caught, just squawling... it was the most heartbreaking sound I had ever heard. I then informed my housemate that I was done doing her dirty work and breaking up families.

The guilt haunts me to this day.

:(

2. Thousands of dollars of damage
to the roof, to my solar system....... Every flipping bird feeder I ever had they have destroyed.

I agree, they are cute. If they would just stay in their trees.

3. I had the bird feeder problem once
I solved it by hanging it from one tree to another, and putting some one-inch-long pieces of copper tubing, separated by washers, on the line for a distance of several feet on either side of the feeder. The squirrels couldn't get past it without falling off and they couldn't reach it any other way. They're pretty creative about getting to the stuff, that's for sure. I know they make "squirrel-proof" bird feeders, but have never bought one so I don't know whether any of them really work.

But I know they do damage to other things so I can see that being an issue.

9. hee hee heee
I am still chuckling at myself!

I might try one of those fancy supposedly squirrell free feeders some day.....as it is they have destroyed some pretty tough containers in the past.

had to stand on a bench and hold the camera over my head so it is not a great shot, but I think you can see how the buggers are pulling all the METAL from this feeder:

And, Phin gets into every act:

10. I finally made mine work...
I got this metal sun at walmart cheap!!(5.00), I cut a hole in the middle and I have it just floating on top of my bird feeder pole. I have seen squirrels try to get on it...all they can do is reach out and touch the edge and then give up.

13. Thanks!
The feeder is about 30ft from the nearest tree, and it is six feet tall, and as you see...we feed the squirrels ;)
