Please help me with my website...
I've just completed a major revision to the Raven Falls website -- I'm now offering both a photo gallery (for print sales) and a stock library. Browsing through each should be a lot easier, and print-ordering should be streamlined as well. I've also added an "articles on photography" section, with a hope of eventually having a full tutorial area. Oh, and there are many more images available as well!

I'm asking members of the photo group to help me out in looking over the site and reporting any problems you might be having, so I can get them fixed by the time Googlebot comes calling next Monday. Please use this link instead of the usual ravenfallsphotography.com during the initial testing period. Thank you!

1. Looks great!
It is easy to navigate and not cluttered with lots of info that detracts from the beauty of the photos. Great work.

2. Possible problem?
While browsing through your galleries (beautiful work!), I tried to return to your home page by clicking on the graphic link on the top bar. (see below)

This is what comes up instead:

--

Not found? Does that mean I wasn't there? If your site was simply a figment of my imagination, I really love where that figment took me.

--

Ack! The sun's coming up without me and the ospreys are calling.
I'm out.

4. Oops...!

Thanks for catching that! It was a simple typo (I don't practice "phtotgraphy"), but it unfortunately means that I have to rebuild and reupload all the galleries. And, while Lightroom makes that pretty simple, I won't be able to get to it until later this afternoon.

Anyway, thanks for helping out -- I doubt I would have caught that one, since I hadn't thought of clicking on the title bar during all my local testing.

Once again, thanks for finding it!

3. Great job!
Very attractive layout. You might want to consider larger font on the directional text (probably a trade-off between aesthetics and readability for older eyes :) )

Using the Mozilla Firefox browser, the "Continue Shopping" buttons on the cart and checkout pages do not seem to be functioning. It appears to be a browser incompatibility issue, since it works with IE with one exception. When it is accessed from the "view cart" button on the home page it returns and the page appears to display correctly, but the bottom bar message is "Done; with errors on page."

5. Let me get what you are saying straight...
The problems you are having with Firefox involve buttons on PayPal's own pages, not pages on my site. Is that correct?

6. I have not done an interface with PayPal,
so I don't know enough about the details to know whether it is inherent in PayPal or associated with things under your control when you set up the interface.

With respect to Mozilla: when you press the "continue shopping" button on the PayPal/Raven Falls Photography interface page from within the Mozilla browser nothing happens. It is supposed to close out the window and return you to the page on your site from which you came. As I have not studied the PayPal interface, I can't determine whether any of that is under your control (i.e. a field you may have typed incorrectly), or a purely PayPal incompatibility with Firefox (not much you can do other than complain to PayPal). I tend to doubt it is purely Firefox incompatibility since I use Firefox almost exclusively and have not encountered this problem before.

With respect to Internet Explorer, the error message appears on your home page in the lower left hand corner. Normally when pages load properly the word "Done" appears. When returning to your page from the PayPal cart, the phrase, "Done, but with errors on page" appears on your home page.

7. I just verified the same issue...
Edited on Wed Apr-02-08 05:15 PM by regnaD kciN
It appears to be because Firefox, instead of jumping from my site to PayPal in the same window, opens a new browser tab and goes to PayPal from there. So, when you click "Continue Shopping," which should cause the browser to jump back to the previous URL, Firefox essentially says "uh, dude...this tab doesn't have a previous URL," and does nothing.

Of course, if you close that tab, Firefox will jump you back to the parent tab which should still be on the page from my website where you made the purchase. Nevertheless, it is confusing, and the last thing I want to do is to confuse someone trying to give me their money! ;-) Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be anything that can be changed from within Lightroom. I just posted a message to the authors of that gallery code; hopefully, they'll be able to send me a workaround or revise their code to fix it.

P.S.: For the moment, I put up a note on the "pricing" page explaining the Firefox issue. Hopefully, anyone having problems will find it.

9. Good luck fixing it
As to the IE quirk, I didn't notice anything wrong with the front window, despite the error message. Most people probably wouldn't even notice the message.

(BTW - IE also opens up PayPal in a new window, but seems to know how to close out the new one and drop you back into your site.)

10. It looks great! Clean, sensible layout and no distractions from the pics.
But I will echo the comment above about some of the tiny navigational links. Despite bifocals and a big monitor, I still find myself squinting.

11. When you talk about "navigational links"...
...I assume you mean the "Previous | Back to thumbnails | Next" text in the top bar?

Just thought I should check before I start re-building and re-uploading everything once again...
